Turn The Tide - Banzuke Nagoya 2021

Recommended Posts

Two wins had to be added in Makunouchi, and three in Juryo and below. 'Twas a tricky puzzle again with more bad luck than good luck around.

Those are weird. I suppose in both cases there was only one Ozeki on the banzuke (disregarding Yokozunas), and so the banzuke committee wanted to have a second Ozeki, and so promoted whoever with below the usual requirements.

Should I take this as a hint for Turn The Tide? ;-)

Don't know....

But I have just had a look at the recent TTT banzukes, and I am wondering what is the reasoning for keeping Pandaazuma at Sekiwake for July? ;-)

Unless TTT is okay with having fewer than two Ozekis (Yokozuna/Ozekis) - which by the comments of the rijicho that might not be the case. (Quote "Yokozuna Kitakachiyama has been struggling for quite a while now, but we still need him as acting Ozeki. (Liftingweights...)") then I don't think it is quite so simple. With the Yokozuna-Ozeki  having four poor bashos in-a-row (5-10, 4-11, 5-10, 5-10), surely he is now at the last chance saloon, and the TTT rijikai must be looking to the future? Last basho Pandaazuma had one win less than the joint best scores in Makunouchi. The previous basho, he came (joint) fourth in Makunouchi, and the one before that, joint third.  All at the rank of Sekiwake.  Surely that is worthy of consideration of promotion to Ozeki at this moment in time? If Pandaazuma had ended up 8-7 (so one more win than he actually got, but equal with the best scores with the rest of the division), would he have been promoted to Ozeki?

If Pandaazuma has a poor basho in July, and if the Yokozuna gets double digit losses for the 5th basho in-a-row, what is the rijicho's back-up plan? Give the Yokozuna-Ozeki yet another chance? Have just one Ozeki at the top of the banzuke? Or promote someone to Ozeki with a less deserving record than what Pandaazuma has had over the past three bashos? ;-)

Alright, I totally misunderstood your question about pandaazuma (considering demotion in case you didn't know about the added wins).

My back-up plan? Wait and see. And buy new shoes if I shoot myself in the foot.
