They won't. They'll just appeal to Terunofuji's better recent record.

Are you claiming that Kisenosato's record right before promotion was worse than Terunofuji's is now?

13-13-12-10-12-14

vs. 8-13-11-12-12-14?

So literally the 10 vs. the 12 from two basho before, and ignore the other 3 basho?  I mean, sure, if that's your thing, you can argue very specific things if it suits you, I guess.

Ah, but these are the very people who have steadfastly denied that anything beyond the last two ozeki tournaments can possibly count. Surely they wouldn't be so hypocritical and suddenly change their tune...

Well you are showing a very specific thing too.

If you go back 10 basho before that then the case is very clear.

No. I'm predicting what what the whingers will use as argument. I think Kisenosato's promotion was well deserved, and have no question over Terunofuji's.

Oh that is a good point. Is what they'll never say.

Close call day! I knew it, Ura was going for that slither away-back drop move, and it worked! Too bad for the hairpull. Kaisei needs to get a brazilian, on his head...

If only it were that simple.... I'm almost hoping Terunofuji loses the next two bouts in the most unyokozuna like manner, if only to see Chris have to backpedal or embarrass himself by alleging more racist conspiracies.

If true it sends out the wrong message, if the promotion is all but guaranteed, and Terunofuji doesn't bother at all in the last two bouts.

I used to like some of Chris' videos but as far he is concerned Hakuho is completely incapable of doing any wrong, and there is also something of an anti-Kyokai element to them as well.

If you go back more basho than that, Terunofuji's results are meaningless since he wasn't in the Makuuchi joi.  That's why I went back as far as I did, besides being how far back @yorikiried by fate's Graph shows Kisenosato's Yokozuna run, mainly because that's most likely what they were looking at - not the last 3 basho or the last 12 - especially considering one of the banzuke topics after he went 13-13 was the few number of times an Ozeki has done that and not been promoted.

But yeah, I can still see your point that if people want something specific to point to, they can.

Imho unless he goes kyujo, loses by disqualification/non-technique, or takes a knee, he has already sealed it.

Nope.  Tobizaru as well.

I thought Wakatakakage pretty clearly stepped out first in his "win" against Kotoeko, and they didn't even bother to review that one, but I guess after 3 monoii and 2 torinaoshi, they were running slow on time?

No idea why they did not review it, but Kotoeko was clearly beaten and in no position to recover .

Actually, it said "mini-henka" but Kintamayama, for all his awesomeness, is not the final arbiter of henka. Haha. That was a henka-non-henka at best, but for me there was plenty of contact.

No, I am not the final arbiter of henka. I never said I was. I never was awesome either. I just call them as i see them, and there are people who don't agree with me sometimes. That's OK. IIRC, the Japanese side was calling it  a henka as well but I disagree with them all the time. What I'm trying to say is, whatever..

If they both go into the final day with 14, Terunofuji will lay down (epically). Hakuho gets his comeback zensho, Terunofuji the rope and Bob's your grandfather's son.

And no one told Hatooka to shave before his interview today?

He said it was his lucky beard. Many of the guys do that.

I think we can be sure that if anyone is going to take the knee, it won't be Terunofuji. Unless he takes the knee home in a plastic bag.

There is one remaining way for Terunofuji to be unfairly denied the rope.  If Teru wins the yusho promotion is a done deal, of course.  If Hakuho wins on Day 15, perhaps twice if there is a slip-up today, he could screw it up for Terunofuji by saying something meant to support his promotion in the post-yusho interview, which instead comes off as yet another Hakuho irreverent comment that must be opposed vigorously to maintain the supremacy of the YDC and Kyokai, even if doing the opposite makes no sense at all.  I would not be surprised to see Teru bow post-match while raising an index finger to his lips: please, Hakuho, don't comment!

I've been meaning to ask this a few days now (and it's probably been addressed) -- is that Enho acting as tsukebito to Hakuho? If so, what the? This is unusual for a sekitori to do so, right?

If not, who is that who has such a stunning likeness to Enho?

It's Enhou. He can continue to be tsukebito if he chooses, like Tomokaze did with Yoshikaze a while back.

Enho may soon be tsukebito to Hokuseiho if he doesn't get things into gear.

My undisputable take on Terunofuji- he's sealed it even if he loses his next two. 13-2 jun yusho after a yusho? Kisenosato had a 12-3 jun-yusho, two wins behind the yusho winner, and then a 14-1 yusho (with a fusen win) and got the rope. A yusho and a jun yusho as Ozeki regardless of the past and whatever, should seal it. And if it doesn't, I quit.

I agree with everyone here.  However, as you suggest, the worst possible case is a day 14 bout that ends with him in the wheelchair or gurney.  There will be a lot of drinking at the YDC meeting, I think, and not due to toasting the new Yokozuna.

[I'm not worried about jinxing here, because 1) there's no such thing as jinxes; 2) see my motto.]

No, Hakuho needs Terunofuji to get the rope so he can outlast him until November and nudge that "outlasted junior yokozuna" counter to five.
