Down in Juryo, Midorifuji finally pulled out his signature katasukashi under-shoulder pull down move.  Victim?  Juryo debutant, Kotokuzan.  His return from injury has not been pretty.  Before the bout began, his record was the same as fellow Juryo little man, Enho (i.e., 2-7).  But unlike Enho, Midorifuji managed to avoid makekoshi demotion.  Now all he has to do is win this five remaining bouts and ... life will be good again!

Worth noting that Midorifuji, in avoiding makekoshi, also inflicted it on Kotokuzan, almost certainly sending him down to makushita unless banzuke luck shines on him.

Sigh, Enho, Enho. Other than that one KK in juryo one or two basho back, he's been MK all the way since his highest M4 rank. Once Hakuho retires, please do some intense training with him, steal some of Ishiura's weights and protein shakes, and come back stronger. We hardly knew ye...

For Kotoeko, the phrase "banzuke luck" may be sounding somewhat ironic at the moment. I like Kotoeko, he's a man who lacks the natural bulk of a typical sekitori but has sculpted the body mass he was blessed with into a formidable physique. He's one of those sumo wrestlers, like Ishiura, who can take his t-shirt off at the beach without getting sniggers and moob comments. He took an awfully long time to grind his way up through the divisions: 4 years to reach makushita, another 3 to reach juryo and another 3 to get to maku'uchi. He is a massive over-achiever whose natural feeding ground is somewhere around M10. It isn't his fault that the men ranked above him fell to bits in May. So he's getting his arse kicked. So what. He's living his dream and will get to tell his grandchildren about the day he fought Hakuho in the nakabi musubi no ichiban.

Arawashi appears to be tied with him at 84. (Maybe you've found him already, not sure.)

I'm surprised  (not really) that he was allowed to fight after his concussion at an early stage of the basho. No way is he fighting remotely healthy mentally or physically.

There once was a wrestler with the name Rikishi (Solofa Fatu, former part of the Headshrinkers. Under the Rikishi name, he even wore some sort of mawashi). His signature move was to place a "knocked out" opponent in the corner of the ring and rub his ass in the opponents face. I remember one match where his opponent (i can't remember who, but IRL they were good friends) had a hard time not to burst out laughing.
