Death Note: Wakanohana III's Unfortunate Predictions

Recommended Posts

Now that Hakuho has announced his intent to retire, I wouldn't be surprised. Terunofuji really is the odds-on favourite heading into each basho, without more.

Updates to this thread will be a little delayed as I'll be unavailable for the first half of this basho, but I don't expect Wakanohana's choice to be a big surprise with only one yokozuna left on the banzuke.

I agree. Given his previous picks, he usually chooses a high-ranking san'yaku, or at least a san'yaku. Maegashira-ranked rikishi never went into his radar once. Terunofuji is the only guy to satisfies his criteria this time around.

P.S.: I hope it's fine I wrote my opinion also in the opinion pool. I'm totally new to this forum and still trying to understand its netiquette. I just realized not many people post in pools, just wondering.

Am I the only one who went looking for this hitherto undiscovered forum section?

Seriously, if you've got something relevant to say, post it in the place that seems most appropriate, even if it's only tangential and leads off topic. A mod will split it off into a new thread if it gets out of hand.

Welcome to the forum!

Daieisho has the jinx this basho.

He didn't seem very jinxed against Shodai today.

And raja pradhan today was pointing out Takakeisho’s yushos at the Kyushu bashos of yesteryears.

Well, neither Wakanohana nor Raja Pradhan got anything right: Terunofuji went 15-0 to win another yusho, although Daieisho managed to eke out a KK taking it down to the very last day, and Takakeisho at least acquitted himself credibly being in the yusho race till his loss to Abi on day 13.

I have a feeling that Wakanohana will go Terunofuji next basho, and that's when Terunofuji won't win.

In any case, Wakanohana's duck has come back from the grave - let's see how he does next basho. He's still 1/14 and despite last basho's square on pick, has gone off base this basho again, although at least this basho's jinxee got a KK.

No, unfortunately. It seems the prediction segment on Abema's Day 1 broadcast has been replaced by a sumo trivia quiz (real highbrow stuff, like what Wakanohana said at his promotion ceremonies) and Waka's pick for Bout of the Day (Mitakeumi v Ura). The usual search terms on Twitter also haven't been able to pick up any hint of a prediction that Waka may have made.

I'm not ruling out the possibility that Abema has just put it on hiatus for one basho, or that they are mixing it up to have the prediction on nakabi where we have a better idea on who's hot and who's not.

Well, that will undoubtedly help Wakanohana's chances, since he knows that a 2-6 record on nakabi  might not indicate a yusho for his first choice:-P.  At the very least, he's cut his pool down to 42 - N, where N is the number of wrestlers who have gone kyujo by day 8.

It seems that either way the prediction has been cut from Abema's segment this basho. We'll have to wait and see if it'll come back.
