And, if we're being honest, aside from Belgium, Italy was the only decent team in the competition.

You really didn't like Denmark? Come on....

Agreed Italy and Belgium were the 2 best teams. Too bad they met too early in the tournament.

I've seen wins in sports that I care more about (e.g. Cricket)

Funny you should say that, after the last penalty when the English players were embracing each other I kept remembering Flintoff and Brett Lee in 2005, and missing that sport I care more about.

I am very happy of this, but why can't my opponent score in slot 1? His chain is not broken in extra time... Can I call a mono-ii on this? Or am I mistaken?

If I understand the rules correctly Fantasy-overtime starts in the slot after the 2nd players chain broke,

in our case Slot #8

And it only goes till the end, till slot #10, that's the end of the overtime

(Not further with slot #1)

So you win 2-1 after overtime

Congratulations !

(if it would go on with slot #1 you would win 2-1, with goals in slot 1 (me), slot 2 (you) and

If anyone deserved suspense due to an oversight, it's me!

Commiserations to Fujiko, I was similarly uncertain about the result so she certainly put up a strong fight.

This is on par with Steven Bradbury's win of Australia's first gold medal, but you'd better believe I'm clutching on this victory and will gloat about it for decades to come. Many thanks to Jejima for putting the tournament on, as well as all our rejioji's and players.

I hoist the cup aloft in glory!

My chain brakes in slot 10 so I couldn't score. My understanding is that we need a shootout. Let's wait until Jejima weeps his tears (I feel sorry for you btw, I know it was long awaited)

Plate finals, final Standings:

Atenzan - Athenayama 2-1

image.png.077b0d22cb178eded5a1ccc9ab70cb5f.png

No broken chains here, as the 2 players managed to eliminate the two lost timezones against each other !!! (Applauding...)

The draw of Atenzans C-Team made the decision, with England 1 he scored again,

Athenayama goal with England 1 was not enough

So Atenzan wins the Euro 2020 Plate !!!

Congratulations !

Yes, but you scored before in slot 9

and after slot 10 it's finished

We don't play on with slot # 1 (after my understanding of the rules)

hhmm, well

it's not 100 % clear if the extra-time goes to the last slot, or until one chain breaks

I dedicate this victory to the random dice-rolling that gave me my third choice of representative team and therefore got me Italy as my C-team. Couldn't have done it without you.

I must admit in his early years I disliked Chiellini a lot but the older he gets the more I like him.

I was quite liking Chiellini this tournament - even his gamesmanship was done with humour.

Then this happened....  Saka is almost exactly half his age....

No need for a mono-ii. Pitinosato has explained it. :-)

Oops! (As I update the Bench Rules page with all winners.)

Apologies to my wife. She wasn't the runner-up in the previous Bench Euros (2016), she was the runner-up in the previous World Cup (2018)! So, that's quite impressive form by her.

As an extra bonus....

Who came closest to the time of the first goal in the finals with a guess of 5 minutes?

Spoiler

Fujiko..... (At the time, I asked her, "Are you sure? That's a bit early." She was sure.)

I have gone back through previous tournaments to search for the data on Golden Boot and Golden Gloves winners - which are now added to the 'rules page' here.

I should have mentioned it at the start of the tournament that the Golden Boot and Golden Gloves awards are in memory of Fukurou, who looked after these for a few tournaments, before her passing away.

A big thank you to all the refiojis who made sure that this tournament was once again a big success.

Only a little more than a year until the Bench World Cup 2022.
