Ganzohnesushi 381 Posted July 11, 2021 3 English Jokers for the penalty shootout missed... Southgate and penalty shootout simply does not fit. Italy have lost 6 out of 9 times, so neither have been very lucky in that department... So I forgot to add Italy's winning penalty shootout v Spain in this tournament to these statistics... When that result is added Italy "only" lost 6 of of 10 previous penalty shootouts, giving them a 40% success rate (now after the final 45.45%) , while England had a 25% success rate (now 22.22%). In retrospect It does seem to have been statistically significant... Edited July 11, 2021 by Chijanofuji
Sakura 1,141 Posted July 11, 2021 I may be English, but I'm not heartbroken. I've seen wins in sports that I care more about (e.g. Cricket) and at least I don't have to worry about a win being hijacked for political nonsense. Booing is bad form, but the fans have been booing the English players as well during the anthems. And, if we're being honest, aside from Belgium, Italy was the only decent team in the competition.
