Asanoyama’s indiscretions cost us the first whatever-this-ceremony-is-called with four Ozeki present in quite a while.

What’s this called again? My brain is having a moment.

Kyokai Goaisatsu

And Ura wins with ease. It’s on Chiyonoo now to keep himself alive.

Chiyonoo looked a bag of nerves yesterday. Let's hope he's calmed down a bit and forces a play-off.

Thanks. My brain could only dredge up sanyaku soroibumi which I knew wasn’t it at all.

Pop quiz:  Other than Asanoyama's absence (and the contents of Hakkaku's speech), what was the difference between the Day 1 Kyokai goaisatsu and the Day 15 one?

Actually just this second realized I’d forgotten about him still being technically in contention at the time I posted, but he’s out of the running now as you say.

Yes and no.  The crowd itself is not part of the goaisatsu...

This is the first basho since September 2010 where at least three of the top four in Juryo have managed double-digit kachikoshi and only the second ever where three have managed 11+. (The other was also the Sept ‘10 tournament.)

Chiyonoo facing 1994 Roberto Baggio pressure: one slip and we will be shouting "Uraaaaaaaaaaaa" just as the 1994 announcer shouted "Brasiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiil!"

Bushozan and Takakento are in some serious sync.

Turned pro the same basho and faced each other in maezumo. Debuted as sekitori the same basho 7 years later. And now both have 7-8 and 10-5 records in their 2 juryo basho.

Ura, Juryo yusho, returns to Makuuchi next basho.

Abi, Makushita yusho, returns to Juryo next basho.

The earth is healing.

Asanoyama, Makuuchi Trump trophy yusho (some time ago), returns to Makushita in four or five basho, if consensus turns out to be correct.

Balance must be restored.  Sumo snakes and ladders.

Can Ishiura survive with a 7-8? There are four better demotion candidates (not including Asanoyama) ...

Answer: On Day 1, those assembled on the ring only bowed once to the Shomen side since there were no spectators in the KGK.  On this the final day, they had to turn and bow five times to the fans on all four sides.

Takakeisho needs to beat Terunofuji at the first attempt then. All that extra bowing will have sapped the energy he'll need for a playoff.

Yes most certainly. Ryuden, Midori, Aki and Akua are definitely going down and only Chiyonoo, Ura and Tokushoryu have made a strong promotion claim. They'll have to overpromote Yutakayama (or Ichiyamamoto but I'd guess Yutaka) already.

The comment section under Jason's coverage of the Terunofuji-Endo bout is absolutely mental,
so many people claiming that Teru won the fight and that it was clearly rigged because of the
rampant xenophobia against foreign rikishi..

People are weird bro

Outside of the this forum the sumo fandom is like that.

You dont want to look at Chris Gould comment section. 80% of it is "sumo kyokai bad".

It doesn’t help that he tries to stir up drama and controversy more than there is too

I'd also think Ishiura will keep his rank.

There is lots of valid criticism to be made regarding kiyokai practices and there are a few things where sumo can/should or maybe even has to get better, but conspiracy theories on close calls in Bashos is QAnon level weirdness that takes away from valid talking points imo.
