49th Yokozuna Tochinoumi dies

Recommended Posts

Very sad news, presumably this means Kitanofuji is now the oldest living ex-Yokozuna?

Sad news, but 82 is a good innings, as we say. The sort of age where you celebrate the person’s life as much as mourn their passing.

The longest lived yokozuna died this morning according to tachiai blog's twitter feed.

Just to clarify, longest who was currently living, not longest ever. Umegatani lived to 83.

May he rest in peace.

Looking at the recent photos he seemed to be in quite a good shape, at least not overly obese or anything. I wonder if that contributed to his longetivity.
