Favorite Songs

Recommended Posts

This topic is for your favorite songs, for whatever reason.  I have loved certain songs for years and years, and cherish revisiting them again and again.

I'm a little pop-oriented, though many on this Forum seem a bit more metal-influenced.  Some of these songs go back before my time; there aren't many newer than ten years old, because I haven't decided if they're timeless yet!

I invite all of you to let us know what songs have stayed with you for a long time.  I'll start out with a few in alphabetical order.

Alison Krauss               Shadows                https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SJ_jmNcm-Dw

Bill Evans Trio              When I Fall in Love     https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=adPpG0Dnxeg

Bobby Hebb                Sunny                          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=o3ZdVc8V_Ss

Boz Scaggs                  We’re All Alone           https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nf4_JbtPo6c

Burton Cummings       Is It Really Right?        https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uUS-qZTHq30

Carl Carlton                 Everlasting Love          https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1qTzVV01iNA

What a difficult (yet interesting) topic !
How to choose when you've listened to music all your life thus so many pieces of music? Sometimes it's just a solo, sometimes a catchy chorus. Anyway this needs much thinking and big cruel in order not to fill an entire page with songs.

"I'll be back"...

Goodness, where do I start?

How about some Stan Rogers:

Or my favourite tenor, Fritz Wunderlich:

And Akinomaki - I love Mozart, and especially  Sarastro's aria, but I think I prefer it sung by a basso profondo, as in this version of In diesen heiligen hallen:

Watching a relatively recent BD I heard one of my favorite classical pieces, which qualifies as song as well, Brahms: Ein deutsches Requiem - 2. Denn alles Fleisch https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CskHayWjwoU

and which film was it in?

Spoiler

X-Men Dark Phoenix

Hmm… If I could have only a single CD to take with me to a deserted island (and a solar panel to charge something to play the disc with). At least these would be included:

@Getayukata Stan Rogers, very nice acapella song.

@Akinomaki Ein Deutsches Requiem by Brahms is definitely one of the pieces of music I like when it comes to classic music.

@Yamanashi I definitely like all your choices in your triple "D" selection (Dave, Dazzle, Doobie)

@Kotoroiwa Nice selection of songs !

I love this thread !

I swear it was missing 20 minutes ago (I specifically Googled it; they had the Dutch version ... ).  It must have been in the shop.

I swear I've heard "Holy Mountain" by Chris Amott before, but I can't imagine where.  Great experience.

Favourites are subject to change. And there are so many, many great songs out there, it's impossible for me to say "this is the one".

The last months i've been listening to Unleash the Archers a lot and the first thing to do in the office is to put on my BT headset and BLAST one of these songs. They're fun, they make me smile and they give me more energy than any coffee in the world.

Opening 1 from Dragonball,

Memories of my kids when DBZ was big in America: quite frankly, it drove me nuts!  All that grunting and straining, I thought to myself, "If those guys put a little fiber into their diet, the Universe would be a lot less dangerous."

A masterful use of music throughout; songs attuned to the flow of the plot, instead of "come up with a catchy tune, cram it in here."
