Basic stats: Kise-beya, Maegashira 16, 9 wins. About 5 years since return to makuuchi. Also 'Pan no yama' Bread mountain.

"Its definitely hard"

"Like getting pulled into an antlion pit". Literally in Japanese: into Ant Hell.

While someone who fell into the makeup bin looks on.

New fan here. He will probably self combust next basho with a 4-11 or similar but who cares. He showed incredible nimbleness and that robbed amiuchi was a thing of incredulous beauty. He can hardly crouch, but boy, can he mambo!

It's the centripetal motion. He belly is prehensile and can be rotated at a different angle and velocity from his torso to kill his momentum, like a cheetah.

Akiseyama had a wonderful boxing match with Takanoyama in Juryo about 7 years ago. Guy can take a punch. And jujitsu has no effect upon him (results may vary).

His sumo is by no means perfect but he rose to the challenge of makuuchi this time. He can look back on his career now without regret, I think.

May favorite perpetual Juryo guy. Hes gets into a clinch and saps the life out his opponent with that ridiculous body. Many long matches, long effective thrusting arms too. Body looks the same 10yrs ago. Gamberize  Akiseyama !

currently number 4 in the NHK poll about the next yokozuna!

I saved a screenshot just in case, since the voting is still open:

He's a target of lols because of his appearance, but his sumo isn't bad at all. He knows how to get a grip, when to press and when to stall, and basically how to effectively use what he's got. What he lacks compared to the guys who are career makuuchi level are the raw athletic tools like speed, power (despite his weight), and that agility around the edges.

He was a successful amateur before going pro too, and went to the top sumo high school (Saitama Sakae) and top sumo university (Nihon University). Aki knows his way around a dohyo!
