Never-makekoshi rikishi (Day 10):

Day 8 left five rikishi one win away from KK and five one loss away from MK.  However, only 3 rikishi realized their fates after their fifth bout: Shishi, Osuzuki, and Akiyoshi.  Taiyo and Kotoshoho seem to be in a race with each other for the bottom since neither has achieved a win to date – a remarkable reversal for both.

Never-makichochi rikishi (Day 12):  Our two winless rikishi both finally achieved victory!  The last two days found 3 wallees achieving KK and 2 falling to MK.  Among them, Yoshii recovers after opening with 2 losses to earn his tenth KK.  Does this make him a dai-wallee?  :-P  Four rikishi hang on with 3-3 records, notably including the bottom-ranked 3.

Never-makikochi rikishi (final):

Four of the 3-3 rikishi were successful in achieving KK in their final match.  There was a posting about a hypothetical rikishi earning a minimal 4-3 KK in every basho.  Well, truth being stranger than fiction, Makio is a living demonstration of that after 4 basho.

Sadly to me, looks like Shishi is going to hit the wall pretty hard this tournament.

What I've seen so far, he's trying too hard to attack from the side rather than head-on. That might have worked in Sandanme, but upper Makushita knows how to defend.
