In Nov/Dec 2014, two-thirds of the people doing this poll thought that Ichinojo would be an Ozeki by January 2016....

Now he is at the bottom of Makunouchi - but on a four bashoo KK streak.

Please include your predictions in the comments below, and state what you think the actual rank of Ichinojo will be on the January 2022 banzuke (important for tie-breakers).

I predict he'll keep bouncing around makuuchi. He'll have 3 kachikoshi. He'll have one big basho, 11-4.

Solid year with 4 kk. Best record of 10-5. Ends at M4e.

Five small KKs - the best being 9-6.

He'll be M5W on the January 2022 banzuke.

I second that, same opinion. I say 01/21 9-6, 03/21 7-8, 05/21 8-7, 07/21 6-9, 09/21 11-4, 11/21 7-8

I'm not brave enough to predict when he'll be 11-4. I think trying to guess his record in advance is like picking lottery numbers.

Agreed, but this is a) fun, b) more probable than trying to win lottery, c) fun :-)

I think his time in the sun has passed. He will float around mid-Makunouchi but that's as good as it will get

Most of us think that he will start next year in Makunouchi, but outside of the sanyaku. We tend to think that he will be ranked towards the lower end of the banzuke.

Approaching half of us think that he will split the year between KKs and MKs. His KK in January from the lower quarter of the division does not really foretell much.

We all think that he will get at least a 9-6 at some stage this year - so we are all still in the running for that, going into the final day of the January basho. However, if he wins on day 15, he will have proved a third of us wrong in one fell swoop.

Well, let's see how the yusho for this poll shakes out at the year's end.

Ichinojo's 2021 went thusly....

January: M12E (9-6)
March: M6W (7-8)
May: M6W (9-6)
July: M2W (10-5)
September: K1W (8-7)
November: K1E (5-10)

I think that he will be ranked in the joi-jin in January (around M3). This was predicted by MumboJumbo, Totorofuji, Jejima and Bombur.

He managed four KKs over the year, as predicted by nearly a third of us, including MumboJumbo, Totorofuji and Bombur.

His best result was 10-5. This was predicted by slightly over a third of us, including MumboJumbo, Totorofuji and Bombur.

So, it's down to those three to see who will win the yusho!  To the comments we go, for the kettei-sen....

MumboJumbo thinks that Ichinojo will be ranked at M4E in January 2022 - which might well end up being spot on!

No comments from either Totorofuji or Bombur.

So, yusho (Yushowinner...) to @MumboJumbo.

Jun-yusho (Secondprize...) shared by @Totorofuji and @Bombur.
