We were not introduced to the lower ranked rikishi and I'm terrible with names and faces, but I thought someone else on the forum helped identify him at some point last year. Seiyashi 4,068 Posted September 1, 2021 https://www.sumo.or.jp/IrohaKyokaiInformation/detail?id=501 Hokuseiho tests positive for COVID-19. Unclear whether he'll recover in time to start the basho, but it'll be the second time in his short career that he has to be sidelined. Might be an advantage, even, if the two forced kyujo aren't counted towards his advancement record; it gives him more time to train and prepare for his eventual actual juryo debut.

Does that mean that all of Miyagino beya sits out? Seems like that's what they'd been doing previously but depending on how many heyas were tagged at the joint keiko, there might not be many rikishi left to carry on. It might not be the keiko because the participants have tested negative since Ichinojo's case. Further tests are ongoing and we'll hear about the results tomorrow, but it's possible Miyagino is going to be benched for another basho, at least for shonichi. I'm not sure the testing they've done could rule out the joint keiko yet. Didn't it end last Thursday or Friday? That would be easily within the incubation time. This is not my field though, and I profess scant knowledge.

But in their defence, it's probably not enough time for either Hakuho or Enho to have gotten it from Ichinojo, and then incubated sufficiently for Hokuseiho to now be symptomatic. That would also have required both Hakuho and Enho to be symptomatic and test positive themselves first before they can pass it on and have someone else test positive. Hakuho and Enho may yet test positive from whatever source (whether Hokuseiho or the rengokeiko), but it's probably safe to say that Hokuseiho's infection is independent of any cluster that may arise from the rengokeiko. Obviously Hokuseiho was loaded into the cannon and fired at the curtain. It's been a long time since they could find someone large enough from maezumo to fit in the records cannon...
Tigerboy1966 1,372 Posted September 24, 2021 Is it time to start a "Fujiseiun, shot at a record" topic?
Katooshu 3,079 Posted September 24, 2021 (edited) I'm surprised at Fujiseiun's start. He was nowhere near being a top college competitor and I suspect his route in makushita will go more like Oshoryu's than Hokuseiho's, but still an exciting beginning to his career.
