The Wall:
If a sumotori gets his first makekoshi (MK = losing record) in that respective division, it's called "hitting the wall" (KK = winning record, means missing the wall, which is a good thing). For makuuchi this basho it's Tobizaru, Kotoshoho, Hoshoryu and Akua. In juryo we have no entries, because all candidates hit the wall. Oki was blundered senseless by the wall, being the first rikishi to go 0-15 (without kyujo) in his juryo debut. BUT, i'll do a special, because Ura is back. After successfully u-boating to M4 and snatching a kinboshi in 2017, he suffered a severe knee injury and had to sit out almost a year. Late 2018 he came back and scored a 6-1 and a 7-0Y fighting in sandanme. In january 2019 disaster struck again. November 2019 saw his second comeback. Since then he racked up 32 wins from 35 fights, scoring 7-0Y both in jonidan and sandanme.
Promotion/demotion/kadoban/intai:
We have a new Ozeki! After his much improved performance over the last basho and his yusho, the lizard-people finally acknowledged Kintamayama's wisdom and promoted Shodai to Ozeki. None of the 3 Ozeki is kadoban. Mitakeumi had another mediocre basho with 8-7, but he has 2 basho as Sekiwake with a total of 19 wins. Will a yusho with 13-15 wins finally be enough for a promotion?
Ex-Ozeki and Duracell Bunny Kotoshogiku fell to Juryo. Intai or not?
Guess the colour of the giant macaron:
One of the prices for the yusho winner is a giant fake macaron (as placeholder for a load of real, normal sized macarons from one of the best Pâtisseries in Paris). The colour varies and it has become a popular game to guess it.
