I meant that had the withdrawals not happened, I would indeed be miles ahead.

Sorry Simon, but I don't buy this. For me this thesis comes totally out of the blue. With the same impudence I could claim that Hakuho under normal circumstances would have finished 12-3, Kakuryu 11-4, Abi definitely 8-7 and Kotonowaka of course 9-6. So all these withdrawals hit me the hardest. I'm 100% sure this cost me my 4th Oracle Yusho   ;-)

Lol. Another one of those ones that were impossible to win. And that muppet Fuj naturally gets 14! I swear I get about 3 or 4 such bouts per basho.

I think that I am about to collect my 18th career Shukun-sho in Hoshitori.  (I don't think that I can be caught, or go MK at this stage of the basho.)

Outstanding!

Is there still a mailing list for RotoSumo, or did it die out sometime 10 years ago or so? (Beardeddisguise...)

I have been maintaining the Banzuke on this forum since around 2015 that have been used for the Super Banzuke overall competition.  There should be two threads for most basho - one banzuke and one results.  Recently I've moved it to one thread per basho.  The automation in place by Doitsuyama runs everything else.  I was given an email to send the banzuke to Doitsuyama to upload, but after the first two weren't put onto the website, I didn't bother trying any more.

Also, while I'm posting here I might as well say that I have no plans on playing anything other than GTB for the foreseeable future.  I just don't have the inclination to spin up all the apparatus of my engine, and while I'm following along with the results of the Ozumo tournament, I really don't care any more about the games.  GTB doesn't use the bout history information at all (and it wouldn't help) so it's not much of a problem to still play that.  There might come a time where things change, I'll scrape all the results since I stopped caring earlier this year and start again.  Those who prepare banzukes shouldn't take this as an official retirement - it might end up being next basho that I return, as I expect one thing eating up a lot of my time to have ended by then, but there are obviously plenty of other things too that have priority.

I still plan to do the RotoSumo banzuke though.  Again, that's not connected to the rest of the effort updating the prediction engine; its computation system is an altogether separate piece of machinery.

Lolol. With three kyujo rikishi and no Terunofuji in my team I have been resigned to a losing record for over a week. Actually getting 7 was my target. But I am happy for you. You should celebrate. I hear Juryo is very nice in September... (Dribbling...)

Dont blame yor team, you picked them.

As far asj juuryo is concernedi it might not be nice but it will be quieter.

My Oracle hopes are pinned on one unlikely bout: Daiamami vs Midorifuji. If Amami loses, no chance of top three. If he wins, a fair chance of top three. Gulp. And I picked Midori in Toto.

Yeah, I was just looking at this at the same time and determined it's my most important bout too, but I'm for Midorifuji. And I have Daiamami in Juryo Game. Oh well, g'luck!

It was a lot of fun to be back in the fantasy sumo games this basho. All the games haven't been scored yet, but it went something like this:

Pre-basho

  • GTB - 8-7, just. I will gambarize and do better next time.
  • Sekitori-Oracle - 31/57, probably makekoshi. Ditto.
  • Totoro's Hoshitori - not scored yet. Middling, around 8-7. Ditto.
  • SalaryCap - 17/57. I am happy with that.
  • UDH - not scored yet. I was never good at this game.

Daily

  • Sekitori-Toto - 5-10, can only get better.
  • Sumo Game - 10-5. Was in the makushita yusho race but finished with three losses. Still, my best result this basho.
  • Sekitori-Quad - 7-8, 30/69. I know how unforgiving this game can be and I finished quite strongly, so I am fine with that.
  • Bench Sumo - 8-7. Bench Sumo is IMHO the king of fantasy sumo games so getting kachi-koshi is a good feeling!

Had a quick look at the Masters for those over 100 points in the World Championships. I added Ganzo as well as he is having a good basho. Will add Kaito as well next update as he seems to be going well overall too. I have my own method of projection for the Masters. At this stage, it should be seen more as relative strength but it has proved pretty accurate in the past from day 11 or 12 onwards.

Current projected Masters totals:

1. Ganzo 76
2. Flohru 72
3. Norizo 48
4. Panda 40
5. Jejima 37
6. Andoreasu 18
7. Kishikaisei 12

The Norizo, Panda and Ganzo scores include projections for Oracle. I am only tracking those this basho (along with DeRosa and C-Y). I will post those projections later if I have time. So looking at this we could have an exciting battle for the title in November. Still early days, though.

Oracle Day 11:

Sorry this is late. Just had no time. I have tracked myself the 2nd-5th ranked players this basho.

Leader: Pandaazuma
DeRosa -1
Norizo, Ganzohnesushi -2
Choshu-Yuki -6

Oracle:

Yeah, I totally botched my entry this time. Glaringly missed putting a number for Kitaharima, thus zero by default. Also, some math mistakes in Maegashira picks and I was far too optimistic with my Sanyaku picks (broke my own rule and didn't round towards KK).

Will do better next basho.

Masters Update...

Day 11:

Flohru was flying on day 8 but has cooled off somewhat since then. Ganzo lost a little ground too but is still looking strong, mainly due to very strong positions in UDH, Norizo Cup and TTT. He is looking OK for Hoshitori (although that game is volatile) and also Oracle. Norizo and Panda have gained ground and, as I thought, Kaito is also a real contender for the Masters.

Projections:

1. Ganzo: 65
2. Panda: 56
3. Norizo: 55
4. Kaito: 54
5. Flohru: 40
6. Jezz, Kishikaisei: 25
8. Andoreasu: 17

As mentioned last time, only Ganzo, Norizo and Panda have the Oracle projections in there so the others may get more if they excel in that game.

Norizo's top scores depend massively on his daily performance so if he messes those up, his score could collapse. He is probably the best daily gamer in the world, though, so I fully expect him to close things out without a fuss. Panda's best chances are in the pre-basho games but a few dailies could pay dividends too. Kaito also has a mix of potential earners. All in all, quite an intriguing contest.

Yes, especially TTT and UDH are looking extremely promising.  In TTT a 9-2 after Day 11 and only 4 chasers at 7-4 (two of them with a significant worse TB) raises hopes for the big fish. And 9 points ahead of the field after 10 days is a nice intermediate result in UDH. Today was not that bad with 27 points but I expect lower scores in the next days as many of the weaker Rikishi will be scheduled against each other, thus the winners will not contribute to the score. Not expecting so much from Norizo Cup as I won't get 100 points for the correct Yusho prediction. Finishing somewhere between 5th and 8th seems realistic. And slapstick in Seki-Toto today. Obviously my picks went not through and today of all days I forgot to check the confirmation mail. Would have had 21-10 today, i.e. a win. This might cost me a fraction of SB masters points. Damn.

Thanks for the inclusion, Panda. I am hoping to score some Oracle points. I was worried going in that I strayed from the median a little too freely, to the point where I did some unfortunate tinkering at the last second; I remember moving Ikioi from 6 to 7, Daieisho from 7 to 8, Chiyonokuni from 10 to 9, etc. But I think I'm still set up for a good finish, afaict. Got very lucky with Kiribayama's kyujo since I underrated his performance severely. Also would've helped a lot in UDH, but as I'm posting this, I just learned Kiribayama's back tomorrow!

I thought I had RotoSumo pretty locked up until this Endo kyujo. I can maybe still hold on to first if Okinoumi gains 2 wins on him in the last 4 days, provided the rest of my team holds it together. But if they don't, or if easy scheduling gets Okinoumi 3+ wins (I think this isn't unlikely), I may go plummeting.

Took an important loss today in Toto today after tinkering with 1 pick, so probably won't even get scraps now. Still in good shape to score in Hoshitori, Salary Cap, Juryo Game, Quad, TTT, Norizo, and maybe UDH, with some yusho chances in the first couple.

Leading in S4 and definitely in the points in Toto, I hope I won't mess up everything in the last 2 days. As I'll be travelling tomorrow, I won't be able to "study" the bouts at all and I might even not be able to make my entries. I hope I'll find a way but nothing sure. And I'm not even talking about the games on the Sumo forum.

Of course this comment refers only to the daily games.

Hey @Fujisan I was wondering...do you know if anyone has somehow ever managed to go from Makuuchi to Makushita in Bench in just two tournaments? That would be unbelievable!
