Yubinhaad 11,736 Posted July 20, 2020 Six withdrawals ahead of Day 3, three each in Sandanme and Jonidan: Sd28w Dewanojo Sd68e Wakaryusei (fusenpai Day 2) Sd79e Kirinoryu (fusenpai Day 1) Jd77e Tabara (fusenpai Day 1) - Musashigawa reports a worsening case of cellulitis. Yubinhaad 11,736 Posted July 23, 2020 Bit late but there were two more withdrawals in Sandanme ahead of Day 5: Sd55w Yuriki Sd67w Kotosusumu
Yubinhaad 11,736 Posted July 24, 2020 One rapid returnee and four more withdrawals ahead of Day 7. Returning: Sd67w Kotosusumu Withdrawing: Ms35e Inoue Sd5e Sagatsukasa Sd54w Nihonyanagi Sd71w Hokutoryu (fusen Day 6) Inoue had to be taken to the clinic in a wheelchair after injuring his right knee in his Day 5 yoritaoshi loss to Hiradoumi. He reported hearing a cracking sound. Nihonyanagi couldn't put any weight on his right leg after landing off the dohyo in his Day 5 loss to Haruminato - I fear it could be a repeat injury to his right knee, which he had surgery on before joining ozumo. (But that's just my speculation)
code_number3 708 Posted July 25, 2020 Just watched NHK's coverage and the MC asked Shikoroyama Oyakata Did Abi really kyujo?
Flyric 94 Posted July 25, 2020 Just heard from the english broadcast that Abi went out to dinner last night without permission, so his Oyakata's making him sit out. Funny stuff!

Kaninoyama 1,811 Posted July 25, 2020 (edited) Reposted from the Spoilers thread: Shikoroyama Oyakata made the decision to have Abi go kyujo after the rikishi ill-advisedly went out to eat/drink with several guests last night, as a safeguard in case he might have contracted Covid. Oyakata, scolding Abi on the broadcast: "If it was just himself that were to contract covid, that would be his responsibility, but to put everyone else at risk, he did an awful thing." Churaumi 743 Posted July 25, 2020 So...Abi is pretty much done this tournament, then? If it's really about 'rona he's got 14 quiet days ahead of him.

We might still see him back up on the ring this tournament. As long as his PCR test comes back negative, and he does show any symptoms, he might be able to return by day 10. But maybe Shikoroyama Oyakata has the final say on that, and he doesn't sound too pleased...

I just checked the link that Crab Mountain (Kaninoyama) provided above, and this story appears to have legs. Abi has succeeded in ticking off JSA Chair Hakkaku, Judges Committee Head Isegahama, his own shisho Shikoroyama, not to mention his own fans and those of Mitakeumi. Given his previous "screw-ups", I can't help but wonder if Abi will be handed a more serious punishment...

Churaumi 743 Posted July 26, 2020 (edited) What a dummy. All he has to do is home his talents and follow (at times crazy) rules to make tons of money. Edited July 26, 2020 by Churaumi Talking about Abi.
WAKATAKE 2,671 Posted July 26, 2020 Apparently Kotonowaka the younger aggravated his left knee injury from when he debuted in 2015. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202007260000232.html

since_94 650 Posted July 26, 2020 This Kotonowaka withdrawal is not what we wanted to hear. His sumo is enjoyable to watch and I was hoping for a very strong result this tournament.
