Nantonoyama 239 Posted July 15, 2020 To be honest it doesn't come that much as a surprise, since former Bushuyama switched from Kiyomigata to Kasugayama last May. Possibly Tochiozan already took the decision after his terrible Haru but enjoyed some extra rikishi salary in the meantime. Wish him a successful oyakata career! That shuffle of his... I always felt he was overstepping the bounds of propriety just a tad with that (i.e. it feels to me like it should be the exclusive province of the yokozuna). Eikokurai 3,433 Posted July 16, 2020 (edited) I saw Tochiozan in his Makuuchi debut (which was also my sumo debut) all the way back in March 2007. It was a storming basho for him: 11-4, kanto-sho and scalps against some of the big and popular names of the time like Wakanosato, Homasho, Takamisakari and Aminishiki. He even beat a young Kakuryu. Sad to see him go but he’s had a solid career with plenty of stories, least of all that all-hiramaku yusho playoff with Kyokutenho that ensures his name goes in the history books.
