Ex-Kisenosato struggling very awkwardly to explain the Kyokai's app.. Very awkward. Almost as awkward as spelling Teraou.

Saddens me to see Takayasu the way he is now. A year and a half back he seemed on the verge of winning that elusive yusho. Now he seems to lack all the explosiveness and power he used to have.

Terunofuji is still in the yusho hunt at 7-1.  If Tokushoryu can do it, why not?

Very nice win by Kotoeko against Takayasu.

Ishiura wins by susoharai. You don't see that one every day.

I do. I use it to floor my three year old son.

The ending between Enho and Kiribayama was comical: the side flip-flop and the winner picking up the loser by his mawashi.

Yutakayama AND Onosho MK on day 8. Expected this even less than the spanish inquisition invading the Kokugikan.

Fortunately they face one another tomorrow, so the bleeding will stop for one of them.

Somehow i can't see Takakeisho ranked as Ozeki in 5 years...neither as Yokozuna.

Do some of you genuinely think Takakeisho is going to lose his Ozeki rank? He’s only kadoban, not an Ozekiwake. He needs just eight wins and he’s already got three after four days. I know his schedule gets a little tougher moving forward but the sanyaku aren’t that much of an obstacle at the moment. I don’t see him struggling to get five more over the remaining 11 days at all.

I genuinely thought that already then, because I think Takakeisho won't make it to the end of the basho

Who is this shimpan sitting to the right?

It looks like Takenawa Oyakata (ex-Tochinonada)?

So Asanoyama becomes only the 9th rikishi and first since Kotoshogiku in 2011 to secure his kachikoshi on nakabi of his Ozeki debut basho. Impressive.

IMO, that's Hanaregoma Oyakata (ex-Tamanoshima).

Yes, I think you are right. I stand corrected. I always get those two mixed up.

Rough day for most of my pet rikishi. It happens, but you know, still sucks.

Much as I hate to say it, Takakeisho charged in with his eyes on the clay and deserved that loss. He knows better, so what the hell? But we did have some fun matches. I can't say I wasn't entertained.

EDIT: Credit to Kagayaki for giving it his all. He knew what he was up against, but he wasn't intimidated and fully intended to win that match. Good on him.

I will always think of Hanaregoma as being the one who called the controversial monoii in the Tochinoshin versus Asanoyama bout in May 2019(?).  #Not a big fan.

There has been some talk (commentary) that he is feeling pain in his left knee (yet he is not inclined to use tape or a supporter).  Now that you mention it, those comments to the press do serve as a convenient excuse for going kyujo when things aren't going well ... like day 3 ... day 6 ... and today!

The Spanish Inquisition was on its way to the Kokugikan but, due to the coronavirus spike in Spain, is now stuck in quarantine.
