Wow-have there ever been so many rikishi dispersed to so many heyas at once?

If I recall correctly, when the rikishi of the previous Tagonoura-beya were split between two heya it was reported as a first, so this mess is certainly unprecedented.

Surprised to see twin brothers Okunisato and Yoshizawa going to different heya.

Kokusoten, Kasugaryu, Haruhikari and Yoshizawa now have a rare 4th heya affiliation and even move to another ichimon, Okunisato was already in Oitekaze-beya once

Unofficially it could be considered as a fifth heya for Kyokusoten - he was originally training in Takashima-beya but it folded before he could take the shindeshi-kensa, so he ended up going with the shisho to Kasugayama-beya (and got Takakasuga as his first shikona).

Tokojin can even claim a seventh heya affiliation - he started in the old Takashima-beya under ex-Mitsuneyama, which folded a month or so later, moved with the shisho to Kumagatani and eventually branched out with the later Takashima-beya under ex-Koboyama.

To me this has the slightly unpleasant feeling of naughty boys being split up for causing trouble.

Retaliation in the workplace? That never happens.... (Sigh...)

What was the process to decide who goes to which heya? Would find strange if they have asked rikishi and staff to decide, so was it NSK that said you go here and you go there or was the stablemasters that come in and pick the ones they wanted?

Congratulations to the NSK for managing to keep us entertained with the usual quota of scandals, despite the challenges presented by the coronavirus.

I.m wondering, too.  This is like Little League baseball, where they re-bid for players when a team folds.  It's hard (but not impossible) to believe they let the rikishi decide; that would be a precedent they'd regret.

They should have let them battle it out in the ring.

Maybe the NSK said "whoever wants Yoshii has to take the oyakata as well".

Nakagawa after his 2 rank demotion to plain toshiyori is removed from the shimpan department and is moved to the guidance promulgation department, replaced by same Tokitsukaze-ichimon attached Edagawa. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/202007180000475.html

And for good reason-the 16 year old Makushita 54 rikishi won his first bout.

It is a bit crass to an outsider, with the "this ain't no disability school!" and "didn't you learn this at disability school!?", etc.

I hope Tamawashi's sweets can put some more meat on Kyokusoten's bones.

Tamawashi used to invite his brother-in-law Kyokusoten to his home and have him eat some Mongolian food prepared by Mrs. Tamawashi, the older sister https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/旭蒼天万来#エピソード

That connection may explain the change to a really unrelated ichimon among the Nakagawa-beya members. The others changed simply back to the original Tatsunami/Isegahama-ichimon - only Kiyama had never been a member, he joined when the heya was in Tokitsukaze. Yoshii and Sasazaki remain there.

Haruhikari is a long-time tsukebito of Hakuho and now is back in the ichimon of the yokozuna o - yokozuna tsukebito as the norm are recruited from the same ichimon.

Kasugaryu and Kiyama move to Tomozuna-beya (Tatsunami-ichimon)

Yoshizawa moves to Asahiyama-beya (Tatsunami-ichimon)

Okunisato moves to Oitekaze-beya

Maybe the move is affecting him? (Blinking...)

He still has time to turn things around. Maybe he will win his next four. (Eating...)

I think it's more the fact that he's 16 and now faces the Makushita regulars..

This could very well be the case but I hope that he can still get at least four wins. (Onthebanzuke...)

Only Kyokuyuko retires - he already had his danpatsushiki yesterday at the heya, with about 30  supporters and Nakagawa still as the shisho to have the final cut http://hochi.news/articles/20200712-OHT1T50268.html

The only heya in Kanagawa pref. gone, in his hometown - one article reported that the situation broke the heart of those that decided to retire.

But Kyokuyuko was mainly plagued by injuries - at the Haru basho he tore a muscle in the left arm. Later he re-injured it during keiko, on top of it stumbled on the street and injured it more when he fell, losing the sensation in the arm. Late in May he had told the oyakata the intention to retire. He already had decided for himself that Nakagawa would be his last shisho, when the heya was re-formed. For him, the heya had a warm atmosphere, like a family. The reports by the media made him realize that all  rikishi had a variety of thoughts about the way to absorb what came from the oyakata. "If only there would be more communication with the oyakata and among the rikishi"

For his 2nd career he works at a construction company. He aims to get to 100kg, from 135kg. Kyokuyuko wants to teach what he learned in the heya to the kohai at his school, Mukainooka industrial high, asked to by the coach.

Where else in the world would you have people moved to the guidance promulgation department as punishment for delivering some abusive "guidance"?
