July basho?

I've seen tv shows that touted the Kokugikan's yakitori, but I was not impressed I'd have to be really hungry and a little drunk to try it again.

I was a little disappointed too, but I hope they bring back the rikishi-branded bento by the time I go back. Of course, a lot of things are going to have to be back before I can make it to Japan again.(Tearsforming...)

Hakkaku today reported the preparations for the July basho to governor Koike

Today she talked about the NSK guidelines without mask at the infection expansion alarm press conference - looks like she used the NSK as an example how it should be done - "Stores without measures may have to shut down", but likely not the basho https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AONmDvVG5xg&t=12m25s

it will be streamed live

The marks for social distance are in place on the floor at the kokugikan shops

Takakenji at PR for ticket sales - at least the masu seats for day 15 are sold out now, but not for day 1 - B and C chairs seats are still available for day 15. Only the top class S masu seats are sold out for all days.

Like any other type of skewer food, if not consumed hot, tastes like a table.

I love yakitori to death, but man is there ever a huge difference between cheap yakitori sold at stands and regular priced yakitori at an even halfway decent-ish restaurant.

It depends on the stand. There are some really great take-away stands, some average, and some you can't even appreciate drunk. But I'd agree that for variety of skewers and atmosphere, a proper restaurant is da bomb.

Not open to the public this time, but to the press. Looks like they were to sit on the floor, behind the gyoji - but there could be YDC or the like in that corner

The yobidashi parade - without masks - most if not all of the usual stops should be skipped this time: chaya, training institute, heya. Maybe that was all of it - the drums stopped in the video after they finished the rounds.

I haven't seen that in the guidelines, the Takasago-beya homepage mentions it for the 14th: unlike for Haru, rikishi are not allowed to bring their own bento to the basho, to prevent food poisoning. Food is served at the event floor below - where at the usual Tokyo basho chanko is available for the spectators, for makushita and below free of charge. The guidelines allow only 1 person per table.

The rikishi size Lion-do shop appeals to rikishi with extra large masks

Takanosho does the basho PR today - day 1 is still far from being sold out, but at least the masu seats have now only a few left

event staff is needed for the basho, more than 500  https://townwork.net/detail/clc_2791065001/joid_Y005ULC2/

Ticket check (apparently they won't let that do the oyakata this time), information, disinfection etc.

Idk if this is the spoilers thread or not, there isn't anything clearly designated. Pretty surreal to hear only applause instead of cheers and vocal crowd reactions. Just glad to see sumo back! Ichinojo v. Hoshoryu is up next!

Eating and drinking in the hall is allowed, but masks are obligatory, so this is no fun. On sale are only soft drinks and yakitori.

The announce said, "Please keep eating to the possible minimum and put the mask back on immediately after". Bringing your bento is allowed though - "eat the bento within the expiration date to avoid food poisoning" - that is from the standard announcement at a usual basho

Drinking is encouraged to avoid dehydration.

"Please refrain from loud cheers, and certainly never cheer without masks"

Indeed, the ones I tried could have been structural materials...
