Sumo federation rules to resume keiko

Recommended Posts

Posted (edited)

The amateur sumo federation published guidelines to gradually resume keiko and tournaments http://www.nihonsumo-renmei.jp/pdf/keiko_saikai_guidelines2020.pdf

From stage 0 to 4, possible to advance 1 stage every 2 weeks, if there is close to 0 risk of infection. Stage 0 is the state of emergency, not going out and train alone. Stage 1 up to 1h of the basics with masks and not getting close. Stage 2 is about 1 h of keiko with opponents, simple oshi and butsukari, as long as possible with mask, no crowding. Stage 3 is to resume full moushi-ai keiko, for about 2 hours, up to 5 min. in a row for 1 individual, no masks, no limit to the number of people, but avoid crowding. Stage 4 is resuming degeiko and tournaments with others, no masks, no time limit, but keeping social distance whenever possible.

The dohyo has to be disinfected and the sand changed each day to some that was exposed to sunlight. Also the mawashi has to be sprayed with disinfectant before and after use, it has to be washed or disinfected in the sunlight to stay clean.

On the schedule of major amateur tournaments http://www.nihonsumo-renmei.jp/yotei/index.html one can see which are canceled, which postponed, which are still on schedule - and international events are listed as undecided. The east and west Japan student championships and newbie championships were postponed (which often means indefinitely), the 2 national middle school championships are canceled.

Training at the Gifu city commercial high sumo club started on June 15th. The 4 members trained each on his own, in shorts, so that nobody had to help with putting on the mawashi

Training at the Taku high sumo club is already proper now and for a tournament: on the 21st in Karatsu city, sumo at the Saga pref. high school sports meeting, the SSP cup - they are the only school to take part, therefore no team event

After half a year and 3 months late due to Corona, training at the corporate sumo club of Sodick Co. Ltd. restarted on the evening of the 12th, butsukari geiko included. The club was formed April 2019, in their debut they won the 2nd division of the All Japan corporate sumo championships team event. http://amasumo.blog.jp/archives/20066331.html The winner of the 2nd division replaces the last of the 1st division of 16 teams wiki/全日本実業団相撲選手権大会

The top of the 3 club members is Hayato Miwa (25) from Anamizu town (like Endo), 3rd at the above tournament individuals,

Maybe one of the first Corona time amateur sumo tournament videos - the tournament is intrahigh though, so not really stage 4 yet. Only the open weight division had much of a competition, heavy weight like team had a yusho by default: only one participant. Nice izori in the end for the final of the light weights. http://saga-koutairen.jp/site_files/file/2020/kyogikekka/11_sumou/20200621165509.pdf

Not sure if the information just hasn't been updated, but those were all cancelled months ago.
