Consecutive yusho in diffeent divisions

Recommended Posts

I'm certain that Ura can't be the first guy to drop into lower divisions on an injury and then clean house for a ways on his fight back up through the rankings. With consecutive yusho in jonidan an sandanme, though, I'm wondering if he could snag a yusho in makushita in July...

I wonder what the record might be for this? If he's completely recovered (all the bandaging begs the question a bit), I see the slim prospect of lifting the cup in July and again in juryo in September. Regardless of that, I'd like to see Ura getting back into the money soon, and back into makuuchi so that we can cheer on the lad in the pink mawashi.

Only one so far having three consecutive yusho in three divisions starting in jonidan.

But 16 in total tried to do that. The one coming closest was this "gentleman"

Seven to have three from jonokuchi. Two are active in makuuchi at the moment.

And then there's the one to have five starting from jonokuchi. He later became a Yokozuna.

Kobayashi! That is totally outrageous. That has to be the fastest rising through the ranks of ll time. Amazing. Now I need to read a little about this guy. How could he possibly do that.

Ura is a very entertaining rikishi no doubt. If he can only stay healthy, he is young enough to rise again and create more excitement in Makuuchi. A big ask I know, but stranger things have happened.

He is a ms19, so he won't be in juryu in september. Unless something weird like a bunch of guys reteiring happens.
