Question About Forearms/Slaps

Recommended Posts

I know that Hakuho uses a forearm/slap combo at the tachi-ai often (and yes, we all have an opinion on its merit one way or the other, let’s not bring up that debate again), but I was wondering if anybody has used these tactics against him since he became Yokozuna? If so who?

I’m not familiar with the protocol here with regards to what is considered ok to do to a Yokozuna in a match. Would these tactics be highly disrespectful/frowned upon, or is it fair game? Or is it simply a matter of most everybody being too scared to piss Hakuho off by doing so?

Sekiwake and below could probably get away with it without the NSK clutching their pearls. People probably try to do it to him all the time, but he beats them to the punch.

I hadn’t considered this, but off the top of my head I can’t think of any examples of guys using slapping/forearm techniques against him. If anybody can recall matches such as this, please let me know. Thank you.

I don´t know. However the last time I remember harite being used against a yokozuna (and I am sure I am missing here several instances) was by a promising young rikishi named Kisenosato, against Asashoryu. Needless to say - Asa was livid and gave him a thorough shove arrogantly "kneed" him into the chest after defeating him.

I've never seen anyone use a forearm/slap combo at the tachi-ai against Hakuho.  However, during the course of a bout in the past year or so, I believe someone had the nerve to slap Hakuho.  It was commented on by the announcer.  I wish I could recall which bout this was.

I will definitely have to try and seek this out, thank you Joann!
