NHK kohaku rikishi

Recommended Posts

I recently checked videos of old NHK kohaku utagassen year end singing and wanted to know in which year rikishi were invited as judges or guests. This is the result of the search for sumo on the pages of the 70 contests, linked from here https://ja.wikipedia.org/wiki/NHK紅白歌合戦#各回の概要

Especially new ozeki and yokozuna were invited to be panel judges, starting in 2004 they were guest judges. The ranks are at the time of the show.

Thanks for this.  This is an amazing piece of research.  But maybe it also answers the question "with no basho, what will the forum geeks do if they can't measure bout length and kimarite frequency?"  When I catch myself thinking I should start that win percentage by W/E and day of basho project, it's clear that we need to have some real sumo pretty damn soon.

I’ve been thinking for a long time about trying to find longest winning streak by side on a single basho day or look for interesting patterns. Every basho I look at this, even though it’s meaningless. Like, who cares that East won five, then West won five or that East managed a winning streak of eight in a row?

There was a recent basho where it went two wins East, two wins West, three, four, etc, until the pattern got ruined.

This was an interesting day for both makuuchi and juryo.

I happened to watch the Kitataiki vs Satoyama bout.  Satoyama does a sort of inside spin square-dancey thing that I've never seen before!  In a bit of an anticlimax, they called it a hatakikomi.
