A fellow forum member has asked me if I could compile a list of all the High School Yokozuna from recent years, so here we are. I've also included the shikona of those who had or have joined Ozumo, as well as their highest career rank as of May 2020.

Interesting. I wonder what happened to those guys not joining ōzumo? I would expect that there would be 3-4 of them in that list of 30, but it actually seems that there are like 10.

Many thanks for this list, much appreciated! I thought that in 2001 Kotoshogiku or Toyonoshima had been high-school yokozuna (I remember reading when they joined ozumo that they had been rivals at high-school level), but good to know it actually was Ichihara / Kiyoseumi, who then went on to Nichidai where he got multiple additional amasumo yokozuna titles to get the Ms10 tsukedashi entry into ozumo...

He could have had a great ozumo career but injured his knee in a bout against Homasho in 2008, while at his highest rank of M13, and later was among the rikishi found guilty of, first illegal betting on baseball in 2010, and second, match-fixing in 2011, which led to his forced retirement - sad memories...
