Katooshu 3,135 Posted May 13, 2020 Pretty good record of pro success there, especially from 89-94!
hakutorizakura 590 Posted May 14, 2020 Interesting. I wonder what happened to those guys not joining ōzumo? I would expect that there would be 3-4 of them in that list of 30, but it actually seems that there are like 10.
Azumashida 1 Posted May 14, 2020 Many thanks for this list, much appreciated! I thought that in 2001 Kotoshogiku or Toyonoshima had been high-school yokozuna (I remember reading when they joined ozumo that they had been rivals at high-school level), but good to know it actually was Ichihara / Kiyoseumi, who then went on to Nichidai where he got multiple additional amasumo yokozuna titles to get the Ms10 tsukedashi entry into ozumo... He could have had a great ozumo career but injured his knee in a bout against Homasho in 2008, while at his highest rank of M13, and later was among the rikishi found guilty of, first illegal betting on baseball in 2010, and second, match-fixing in 2011, which led to his forced retirement - sad memories...
