Amamaniac 1,441 Posted May 15, 2020 (edited) One of the first Japanese celebrities to fall victim to the Coronavirus pandemic was Shimura Ken (d. March 29). There is a growing number of YouTube videos available highlighting his comedy repertoire. While it may have been posted previously in another thread, I feel that the following link sheds light on his comic genius. Furthermore, it may be of interest to members of this Forum since the subject of this particular skit is life in a sumo stable. But hopefully it will put a smile on our faces in this age of widespread lockdowns and uncertainty... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shrgrIo4mWA Enjoy Edited May 16, 2020 by Amamaniac

Akinomaki 28,339 Posted May 18, 2020 The antibody tests for all NSK members have started: today with 2 heya and 43 people. They want to continue at a pace of 2-3 heya/40-50 people per day, to finish the tests within a month. The tests are also for all heya affiliated persons, which apparently includes rikishi personal or heya managers (like ex-Ichinoya) and the okamisan - (now) not NSK members (NSK members are just a bit more than 900, the articles always talk of about 1000 tests). http://www.daily.co.jp/general/2020/05/18/0013352363.shtml I wonder if it also includes the kids of the oyakata, who live in the same building and use to be in the heya often.

Akinomaki 28,339 Posted May 23, 2020 (edited) This year, due to Corona, the orders by mainly sekitori and heya for hanmono cloth with their names on have dropped by about 70%.
