Stupidface 34 Posted February 16, 2020 Hello! I am new here. I have just discovered sumo and I am now hooked. I like the wrestlers with a bit of a personality (Chiyomaru being my favourite!) I am also keenly keeping an eye out for Ura and his comeback! I remember watching a short piece on his pink mawashi and how happy he was when he got it and I've really like him ever since. Also, I hope nobody is offended by the username, it is a pet name only from my husband and I mean no offense! 6
Ryoshishokunin 210 Posted February 16, 2020 Welcome, stupidface. Following sumo from here in England is proving to be harder than it was when I lived in Japan, so getting into it from here seems very serendipitous.
sumojoann 1,099 Posted February 16, 2020 Welcome, Stupidface! This a wonderful site to learn about all aspects of sumo. I became obsessed with sumo in 2013 and the more I learn, the more I realize how little I really know! If I live to be 100 years old, I don't think I could ever call myself an expert. I'm not going to let that stop me from enjoying it! Glad you have joined the forum!
Yamanashi 2,933 Posted February 16, 2020 Stupidface: Don't worry about your name choice -- there are some crazy ones here already. So, ganbarou! [On the other hand, I will feel a little weird posting a sentence like "I wish all the rest of us responding to such-and-such had the clarity and depth of understanding that Stupidface has"] 1
Kaminariyuki 484 Posted February 17, 2020 LOL, I figured it was some cultural reference from a tv show I’d never heard of. I was going to ask about the photo, but no, I’ll just enjoy it, ...and the story. Welcome! There’s a wealth of info here, but a few of us are only good for an occasional chuckle or shake of the head.

However one can only try :)

NokottaClue 5 Posted February 17, 2020 Good to know there are more sumo fans in England! My wife took me to a Heya as a birthday present during our honeymoon last year, I'd been to a basho on a trip years ago but it didnt affect me the same as having sat watching them in training. Infact I was oblivious to the fact the big guy in the room that all the other rikishi were coming over and showing a lot of respect to was Hokutofuji, or the fact it was the first day of a Basho that day. I looked up Sumo when I got back to England to find Hokutofuji had got a kinboshi that day, and I just became obsessed since. I think maybe its the fact that it's relatively tough to get much content and so few fans is what's making this something of an obsession! Has anyone from the UK worked out the best/cheapest way to get sumo merch other than buying from American fans that have had to import from Japan?

I have a friend in Japan who can buy things for you and ship them to you. He usually gets them from the official gift shop. He doesn't live in Tokyo so what he does is order them shipped to him, then he ships them to you. He does charge a commission. I've known him for 7 years and he's very honest. I have referred other Forum members to him to do business with and they have been very happy. No matter if it's a large order or a small one, he will help you. If you would like me to contact him, send me a primate message with your email address and I will have him contact you. 1

I'm originally from the south east but we live in Worcestershire where my husband is from! :) I'm chucking a metaphorical Terutsuyoshi sized salt pile as we speak!
