The 10th Hakuho cup, Feb. 2nd in the kokugikan, will become even more international: among the about 1000 participants, this time there will also be a team of 5 from Brazil.  Brazil did really well at the junior world championships, Hakuho heard about it and approached the Brazilian "oyakata" to invite them. http://www.nikkeyshimbun.jp/2019/191114-71colonia.html

The new article from the Brazil_Japan paper talks of about 1200 athletes from 14 countries - from Brasil for the 5 athletes, there are 3 officials for a team of 8

The promoters of the event are the "10th Hakuho cup executive committee", the general incorporated association "Hakuho dream fund" and as special sponsor pachinko maker  SANKYO Co., Ltd.

The bouts are planned to take place from 8h till 18h - similar to a full day at the basho.

What performance will last year's gino-sho wonder Motomura deliver - and will Mahato win a few?

they are  ruining the whole broadcast with a bunch of people talking about every kind of crap - but not about the action - hall sound is nearly not audible, no onscreen data: it's best to mute it all to be able to watch - except when Enho or maybe later Hakuho are on air - but not even they are talking about the action: they get called for smalltalk

If the number of people watching the stream on YT reaches 1000, Hakuho has promised to come to the commentator table to be on air - so far he is shown at the Hakuho table behind the dohyo, right at the action.

Foreigners are doing really well - and it seems that this time about a 3rd of the competitors are from outside of Japan (with the usual team sizes of not more than 10 for most countries, it can only be about 10%). A real international event now - except for the Chinese team with 5 athletes: they couldn't come due to the new epidemic - only 13 countries take part https://www.daily.co.jp/general/2020/02/02/0013082955.shtml

Critics will (rightly) point out again that this is a Hakuho Shouw rather than an amateur sumo event. - But it's also a(n-ex) sekitori show

Valuable (PR) information by Hakuho: the (presently) free World Plus digital magazine app has the BBM SUMO magazine for free - also as PDF download (haven't managed to access the download from a PC yet) - at the moment the 2020 January edition from before the basho and that from January 2018.

Edit: in the Mongolian section, there is the Mongolian version of the "Hakuho Sho Treasure Book" PR photo Magazine, with a calligraphy of his shikona on the cover - (gif) animation contained

To conclude the individuals, a Mongolian final with a HNH to end in an anti-climax. The next Mongolian generation still looks very promising, but they likely will go through (at least)  high school first, before they aim to join ozumo.

Let's see how far the Mongolian team goes in the finals.

Maybe so, but we do include the Hakuho Cup in our amateur sumo banzuke, so there's that. Plus, it's great experience for the kids to face opponents who train differently to them, and thus use a different style of sumo

Like last year, the stream link is now an 11h video (720p). Thankfully, for the finals, Kyokudozan joined the commentator table and made this a proper sumo broadcast.

More from the show today - inspired by Brazil

The usual scene for dad - Mahato (5th year, 150cm, 38kg) made it to the 3rd round this time - as 3rd year he had his only win so far, the 3 other years he lost in the first round.

Due to Hakuho promoting the World Plus app - a bout was skipped because of this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VP_x6rBmwHg&t=7h32m15s-  I found on a Mongolian site a report about the platform, created by a team of Mongolian developers and launched in Japan (surely Hakuho is involved somehow)  https://www.montsame.mn/en/read/202618

And the really good thing: the site has an article about the Mongolian team at the Hakuho-cup https://www.montsame.mn/en/read/214860, so now we have a confirmed reading for many names. The middle school winner is A.Sosorkhuu, he won against B.Bayarbold in the final. 4th y. G.Dorjtseren finished 3rd - he had a good result also last year. 5th y. A.Aditya also was 3rd.

The Brazilian team met with Hakuho and brought him as present a painting, "Paradise at the Amazon"

and had a party with Kaisei, who also was at the event to cheer for them, with Kaisho, who started sumo in Brazil as a child, and others

This link may have been above, but I didn't see it. The title is misleading, as Hakuho states that he has a vegetable based diet, not that he's vegetarian. Even more interesting, the statement that girls will be included next year!
