So, Ama-chan and Ami-chan as attendants.  He should get backing from Sanrio Ltd.  "Asahifuji Kanreki Dohyo, brought to you by Hello Kitty."  Should clean up with the sujo.

<-- Don't forget Kimura Sanrio to lead the proceedings.

To have Harumafuji and Aminishiki is unexpected to me and yet so obvious once it is announced.

I am so very happy to see my two favourite rikishi by the side of their heya master, and I am looking forward to see a video of this ceremony.

And after all, isn't Aminishiki bound to be the next Isegahama? That's a nice picture

As for Aminishiki rounding off the entourage, I would add that Isegahama could well be playing to sumo fans.  Terunofuji definitely has his share of current fans, but Aminishiki has a significant (if not huge) long-standing fanbase.  He is affectionately called "Ami-chan".

Note too that Isegahama's kanreki event will be held on October 3rd, and Ami-chan's top-knot-snipping ceremony will occur the very next day.

One more thing: Oct 3rd is also Aminishiki's birthday. So that's going to be a super important weekend.

Any signs this is still happening? Got to be less than 24 hours away at this point.

Still waiting for news of Harumafuji’s arrival?

Considering possible quarantine rules, I actually wouldn't be surprised if Harumafuji turned out to have slipped in sometime during the basho while everyone was distracted.

Until any videos come out (it's a private event, so don't bother looking for official NSK streams - at least not soon):

Some nicer photos have started appearing:

Edit: Also, does anyone know why the tachimochi and tsuyuharai are the opposite way around to usual? Normally the sword bearer is to the yokozuna's right.

I've never seen the swordbearer on the left. Maybe the images have been flipped?

No, the kanji on the kesho mawashi are the right way round.

Maybe Aminishiki broke protocol like Tokitenku several years ago, so Isegahama and Harumafuji just went with the flow.

That's a perfect dohyo iri from moto-Asahifuji.  No stumbling like some I've seen.

His seriagari was a bit... jerky, though. It felt almost as if he had some trouble standing up - although it's more like he had trouble supporting anything between knees at 90 degrees and fully stood up.

A wider angle shot showing the start of the dohyo iri, which might explain why the order is a bit mixed up. If you look very closely at the very start of the video, Harumafuji appears to want to move forward (he's facing the other two whereas they're already facing the dohyo). He's even looking over at Aminishiki, as if asking what's going on. But he gives it up for a bad job and just faces the dohyo and mounts.

Remember his comment at the conference after Terunofuji had said "itai" at the repeat for the press of the yokozuna acceptance ceremony: Here is nobody without knee problems

Yup, and Harumafuji is clearly holding the sword in his right hand.

Yep, Aminishiki broke protocol. Not the first time that it has happened.

How did Ami-chan break the protocol? Wrong side of the dohyo? Should it have been - from this angle - the left side?

The tsuyuharai (Ami-chan) is supposed to be on the right hand side of Isegahama when mounting the dohyo. So when approaching the dohyo, he and Isegahama were supposed to stop and let the tachimochi (Harumafuji) pass them by to the front side and they lineup in reverse order.

Coverage from Sunday Sports:

And apparently Harumafuji was on hand to demonstrate rope-tying (see code_number_3's post on the next page for both videos).

With the shokkiri and the keiko earlier on, the kanreki was basically a full-on hanazumo event.
