Rather oddly, shortly after Kiryuko secured his 5-2 record Nikkan ran an article all but assuming his impending promotion, using the dreaded 濃厚 nōkō "very likely" in the headline. I wonder if that's a highly unusual blunder by the paper, or if they already know something they can't talk about. On another note, I don't believe it was mentioned on the forum during his maezumo session in March that Otowayama rookie Shoryu is half-Thai (also Nikkan). I am the Yokozuna 222 Posted May 27, 2024 Yago, Enhou, Mudouhou, Naya, Wakatakamoto, Kyokutaisei, Maikeru, Agoura, Anzakura and Muyagi- to be removed, is my suggestion. No indication they would achieve great things at this point. Whatever you do never remove Show Time, amazing shikona, probably the old farts at NSK never realized what it means. Otherwise I really reading this list as it gives me some idea wo might be the next great thing.

I am the Yokozuna 222 Posted May 28, 2024 You asked whom to remove as you search for a way to trim down the list, I gave my proposal on whom you can remove. That's all. I am aware that the list is called celbs in lower division. But those that have their careers stagnating should be off the list is my suggestion regardless of their celebrity status. dingo 1,479 Posted May 28, 2024 I have the opposite view. In my opinion, it's interesting to keep track of those celebrities who used to be on top but have sunk in the rankings for whatever reason. It'd feel a bit disrespectful as well to discard those who are not doing well anymore, like Enho for example. I don't have good suggestion how to shorten the list though, except the rikishi getting promoted or retiring will shorten the list by natural means, so to say.

Koorifuu 1,120 Posted May 29, 2024 In my opinion, the first three (other than Hananoumi) on the chopping block would be Asahakuryu, Kotokenryu and Kazenoumi. They're all promising and I give them a 60/40 chance of making juryo within the next few years, but they're not exactly standout "sekitori unless there's a disaster" material, and being Mongolian isn't as exotic as other nationalities. I first knew of him from this thread, but then saw him being interviewed in this video from the Futagoyama channel. He comes across as thoughtful and sincere, for example the scene where he describes how much he was affected by a supporter's gift of a personalised drawstring bag. It's very touching and brought home to me how few possessions most rikishi have.
Asashosakari 20,270 Posted June 10, 2024 A small collection of bout clips featuring rookies Seihakuho and Noda, and low makushita/high sandanme caliber Yurikisho, Oginohama and Mishima. These five guys had six regular matches against one another, of the maximum possible ten, each appearing in at least two of them (grouped view), which were responsible for nearly all the losses they collectively suffered. Only Yurikisho was defeated by somebody else in his yusho decider at 6-0. And for good measure we also got Seihakuho-Noda as the jonokuchi yusho playoff; they hadn't faced off in regulation. To not overload the thread, I've assembled them in a playlist if you're so inclined: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DoeakGGgNr8&list=PL7X5XJCbHXE6Ch39qHEdFAAMKmQZLJYds A rare extended view of presumably makushita-quality newcomers against opponents known to be around that level. 3
Yubinhaad 11,971 Posted June 12, 2024 I wonder if Paraguay-born Kanazawa's eclectic heritage qualifies him as celeb, at least for his Makushita debut next basho? His father is half-Japanese, half-Paraguayan. His mother Sonia is half-Italian, half-Paraguayan. He's hoping for kachi-koshi in his home basho and then a shikona containing 豊, to honour Toyohashi in Aichi prefecture, where he grew up from the age of 1 until graduating high school. https://www.chunichi.co.jp/article/911841?rct=generalsports
