That sounds bad, i actually only saw a few bouts of him posted anywhere in this forum. I think they were before he entered ozumo. How are the chances of him learning some real techniques ? Or is his target to be the next Chiyoshoma :D

Yeah that‘s really not cool. I don‘t get why oyakata, coaches etc. don‘t intervene that in general, i mean everybody who‘s at least a bit into sumo knows that it is not highly regarded…

He's tended to be much lighter than most opponents over the years, and I don't believe reached 100kg until his college days. Maybe gaining weight  will help him feel more confident in his ability meeting opponents straight on. I also know he's had injury issues before, and that could play a role in his hesitancy to engage.

I don't mind the odd henka, but he's crazy about them to the point where it's satisfying to see him lose when he tries it.

He has a good variety in his winning techniques.  Maybe he just hasn't developed an effective tachiai.

He certainly looks like he's gained weight.  Naruto seerms to like quickness in his stable, and Hagiwara's got that; he does henka a lot (well, henkas seem to be rare below Makushita).  When used judiciously it's an effective way to make sure your opponent is a little slower, at least at the tachiai.

He henka'd just as much before joining Naruto - that he's continued this approach suggests to me that the oyakata doesn't mind it. He has some decent belt skills, particularly with throws, I just think he doesn't trusts his power meeting opponents head on. 

He certainly has gained weight: he entered college at under 100kg, put on another 20kg or so in college, and then another 10kg or so since turning pro, although122kg is still on the light side.

There's a strong chance that makushita could see a "Next Big Thing" showdown for the yusho with Hokuseiho squaring off against Ishizaki. Kitanowaka is also in the mix.

Tomokaze v Sagatsukasa in sandanme should be good. I feel a bit sorry for the veteran: he gets off to a 4-0 start and then he gets matched against this chap.
