I believe just a beer bottle with proper trajectory and velocity should do the trick for both.

Hey, hey, save that stuff for the "Ridiculous predictions ... " thread.  Well, maybe not so ridiculous.

It seems that like with the 2 yokozuna, they try to have the ones destined to drop out, to do so one per day

Irodori needs one week of treatment for osteochondritis dissecans of the right knee, so it's possible we'll see him return later in the basho.

Denuma sustained a right arm injury in his last bout, according to Futagoyama.

Juryo gyoji Kimura Yukihiro is kyujo from Day 8.

And to catch up on a couple of pre-basho absentees: Kaitoma injured his right knee during keiko before the basho. Not sure what Honma's injury is but in Naruto's new year picture he was leaning on a crutch, so presumably it's some kind of leg injury that has kept him out for a second straight basho.

Lower division changes for Day 9:

Withdrawn

Ms10w Gochozan (Minezaki, 1-2-1, absent Day 1/2, fusen Day 8)
Sd78e Dewaazuma (Dewanoumi, 2-2)
Jd24e Fudano (Azumazeki, 0-4, fusen Day 8)

Back

Jk3w Zuiko (Tatsunami, 1-2-1, absent Day 7/8)

Gochozan has achieved the remarkable feat of getting a fusenpai immediately following a fusensho; in the 30+ year history of lower-division schedules available on the DB I've only been able to find one other case back in 1993, although that one was even crazier (fusenpai - fusensho - fusenpai). In sekitoridom it also seems to have happened just twice, first to Onishiki in Aki 1982 and then to Kirinishiki in Haru 1992.

Asabenkei did not show up for work today.

Had a very strange tumble off the dohyo in his Day 8 bout while he was throwing out Toyohibiki. His landing seemed just fine, but he was unable to get up afterwards anyway; he did seem to hit his knee hard on the dohyo surface while executing the throw, before he went rolling out after his opponent, maybe that was it.

Pulled left calf muscle (左ふくらはぎ肉離れ) it seems, he said he heard a cracking sound (バキバキ). He was helped down the hanamichi by wakaimonogashira Iyozakura, also from Takasago-beya.

Hatooka injured his right knee in a yoritaoshi loss today, it looked like something just went bang and he immediately hit the deck. I expect him to be joining the kyujo list too - really unlucky, he had a long absence with a left knee injury a couple of years ago. (Shakinghead...)

And yet again nobody offered an actually helping hand other than feeble gestures to get him safely off the dohyo. They seemed to be more concerned to have him out of the way quickly for the Juryo dohyo-iri to take place. Embarrassing.

no helping hand was:

hatooka had to roll to the edge of the doyo like a seal

put his right foot down the dohyo to the floor still laying/sitting on the dohyo

rolled down the band from his thigh and lifted the left foot down the doyo with the help of that band...... using it like a crane

then came the wheelchair and he was rolled out

Kyujo forecast:

Chiyotairyu could neither bend nor extend his left elbow after being crushed by Ryuden's kotenage today : "A scraping (sound). The first time ever with a pain like that."  http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20200120/sum20012021080019-n1.html

He is not one of those who never go kyujo

Kyujo means back to Juryo, exactly 5 years after his last visit there, unfortunately (already because of an injury)
