Strange yearly prizes

Recommended Posts

As per lately, the "strange stuff yearly prizes " are being awarded. We kick off with "the rikishi who took the longest to get to the venue from his heya" award.

1. Meisei 8670 minutes (aprox. 145 hours)- Takes the train daily, a two hour round-trip ride. Lately he is more recognizable so his fans cheer him on on the train. Car? "No way, the traffic is scary.. Anyhow, it's an exact daily routine so I am able to go with my own rhythm," he added.

2. Endou 7770

2. Daieishou 7770

4. Kotoshougiku  7530

4. Kotoekou 7530 (as you probably figured out, Tatsunami, Oitekaze and Sadogatake beyas are situated farthest from the venue)

etc.

The name they gave the prize is quite clever-  通勤が大変で賞 - meaning "the commute is terrible" -  "Tsuukin ga taihen deshou".  Deshou means "Isn't it?" Sho also means prize, and they used that kanji. So it's a pun.

You haven't explained who are giving out these prizes.

I remember the typhoon that shutdown the metro & JR lines during the Aki honbasho. The Sadotagake deshi arrived around 10.30am after the lines were reopened.
