32nd national primary school student championships

Recommended Posts

The 2019 32nd primary school student championships were on Sunday, Dec. 1st in the kokugikan, together with the zennihon - but for this I haven't found detailed results - the usual blogs haven't posted them yet.

Tekkan has posted 12 videos (4 each for 4th-6th year)  youtube/channel/UCv_DMAQpEr9Gel-gIDHiB_Q/query=20191201+全国小学生相撲優勝大会

Toyoda Rinnosuke after (NSK) wampaku yokozuna now also is (sumo federation) primary school yokozuna in his 5th year, he was it also in his 4th year sumoforum/topic/31st-national-primary-school-championships/.

His local rival Shigemura (last year wampaku yokozuna) lost in the 2nd round to Tamiya (Kotomitsuki Jr.), who lost in the next round.

Grade 4 - There seems to be the beginning of a rivalry, as the finalists of this year's Wanpaku Tournament, Niigata's Tsubaki Rui and Shizuoka's Nakamura Hayato, contested this final as well. Rui won in August to become Wanpaku Yokozuna, Hayato won in December to become Primary School Yokozuna.

Grade 5 - Kagoshima's Toyoda Rinnosuke is unstoppable at the moment, he has now won all three national level tournaments this year. This is remarkably similar to another kid from Kagoshima, Yamashita Shosuke, who was also that dominant when he was in Grade 5. Shosuke eventually couldn't match his rivals' power, but will Rinnosuke follow the same path?

Grade 6 - The Return of the King. Joining Fuchu Sumiyoshi Sumo Dojo has clearly had a positive effect on former Wanpaku Yokozuna Kodama Hayato, as not only does he now have a plan B, but also a plan C. This just shows the importance of having high level training partners who can help you improve. Hayato is now able to compliment his arm strength with different strategies against different opponents (like slap downs and throws), and it has helped him win this tournament for the first time. Four years ago, a Grade 2 Hayato stunned the world of amateur sumo by qualifying for the Grade 4 competition in this tournament. Four years later, he has finally been able to claim it.
