Anyone here hoping to buy tickets tomorrow?

Also, what's the lottery that closed 2nd December? I know about the ringside seats lottery but this one is obviously different.

Good day,

I remember for Fukuoka there was info on the size of the various boxes. Does anybody know where one can find the box sizes for the 1, 2 and 3 person boxes in Tokyo? Also, is there a map where in the arena those are located?

In Fukuoka they were at the row sides.

It's the same in Tokyo, where the diagonal aisle cuts through the square boxes. You get a little more room per person than the standard 4 person box.

There's some 2 person C masu raku boxes that are full sized 4 person masu but priced for two people and a small table is inside. These sell out incredibly quickly though.

Thank you for the reply.

I'm actually trying to go for something in the A area. I remember seeing pictures of the one person boxes being in the middle of the rows, or was that a different venue?

They had a secondary lottery, apparently there were not that many applying for tickets this time. Maybe a good omen for the chance to get tickets tomorrow. I will only take part in the Natsu basho battle again.

Got tickets for 5 days (3,4,6,9,10) easily. Arena seats C because I go as often as I can on a somewhat limited budget. Still some arena seats left for midweek days as of one hour after tickets went on general public sale.

As of now, remaining are only day 10 seat C tickets http://sumo.pia.jp/ticketInformation.do?eventCd=1946170

Maybe deemed the day least interesting with many good rikishi likely already kyujo by then.

Usually some tickets will be returned, you can check the resale on the pages from here http://sumo.pia.jp/ticket01.jsp

Looks like the resale pages will stay the same for the whole basho, shown on the right of the sub-pages.

Each masu seat page has a link to the general masu seats resale: http://sumo.pia.jp/resale/purchase/list.do?eventCd=1946178

I managed to get my Arena A seats for the days I wanted.

Does anyone know if it's possible to book through the Japanese version of the ticketing website without a Japanese address?

Also, what's the most popular third party website for booking tickets? Viagogo seems v.expensive.

It took about 6 hours to reach  total sell-out, leaving just the about 350 same-day tickets on sale each day of the basho http://www.sanspo.com/sports/news/20191207/sum19120718520001-n1.html

- and till then a few that will keep appearing on resale:

3rp parties that have bought a bunch of tickets will likely have some left as well, e.g. there are local tours from many regions of the country.

The Ticket Oosumo site http://sumo.pia.jp/en/ still shows a limited number of Arena C seats available for Jan 16, 21, and 22 as of almost 24 hours after the onsale, if anybody is still looking.

That's interesting - the same site shows no available seats on the Japanese pages - looks like they have a special contingent only for foreigners there as well - they had one for the special ticket machines of the TicketsToday service and maybe will have again just before and during the basho - at the moment it doesn't show the basho as event yet. I doubt that they will actually sell some of the tickets for the day through there, so you wouldn't need to line up in the morning at the kokugikan, but could at a terminal in Shibuya - certainly not for the same price.

Despite all days previously being marked sold out, some arena seats have recently come available for January 12, 16 and 19. Maybe a rerelease of some sort? Anyway, get ‘em while they’re hot, sumo fans.

Except on a day Trump is there. It is sold each day from 12h-16h in the kokugikan lower party floor, delicious and cheap - 300yen. I always line up a bit before 12h, when the queue is still inside the building, order 2 servings at once plus a bottle of water (180y - you can't bring food or beverages into the lower floor) for dilution to cool it down and start eating at once. I do the same again after the makuuchi dohyo-iri to be there just before they close at 16h - unfortunately, I usually miss the yokozuna dohyo-iri with that though - I hope I'll be lucky for Natsu to get to see the team and still have my 2nd meal.

The former Yoshikaze, now Nakamura oyakata, flogs Lucky Bags at the Oh!! Sumo Market in the main passageway through Ryogoku Station.  Each bag contains some sumo souvenirs and some special goods not sold at the souvenir stands.
