Here is Akinomaki's post from the yokozuna/ozeki preparation thread on Wednesday: "Kakuryu was one of those at degeiko to Tokitzukaze-beya today - 15-0 with Yutakayama. "(The injured left knee,) It's not perfect", but "of course (I'll enter the basho)"." I guess the knee was worse than he was willing to admit?
Yubinhaad 9,071 Posted November 10, 2019 From what I've read it's actually his back that is the reason, a recurrence of lumbar spondylolisthesis (must be the longest word I've ever typed) requiring two weeks of rest.

Akinomaki 28,346 Posted November 10, 2019 (edited) The medical certificate for Ichinojo states 4 weeks of rest needed as treatment for a herniated disk, dated from Oct. 29th. http://www.jiji.com/jc/article?k=2019111000393&g=spo Next in line for kyujo are Goeido and Ichiyamamoto. Goeido twisted his left ankle as he got yoritaoshi'd by Endo - he had to lean on the shoulder of his tsukebito as he left. "More or less (pain). Only after watching the condition for a day I'll know". Ichiyamamoto injured his left knee in the bout with Kyokutaisei: "The pain is extreme" - he will get an MRI check on the 11th http://this.kiji.is/566229540775625825?c=39546741839462401 Edited November 10, 2019 by Akinomaki

Akinomaki 28,346 Posted November 10, 2019 14th kyujo for Kakuryu and the 2nd time with a fusen loss for a yokozuna on day 1 - the other was Haru 2015. The only other yokozuna in the post-war era with always 15 days per basho (since Natsu 1949) who had a day 1 fusenpai was Yoshibayama Natsu 1954 https://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2019/11/11/kiji/20191111s00005000003000c.html

Akinomaki 28,346 Posted November 11, 2019 (edited) The kyujo forecast - Tomokaze should better have continued his kyujo from the jungyo On 05/10/2019 at 19:20, Akinomaki said: Tomokaze: 1 month of treatment for a torn left abdominal internal oblique muscle Looks like 1 month wasn't enough - he certainly wasn't prepared for the basho. But a zenkyu could have meant the loss of the last makuuchi rikishi for Oguruma-beya - Yago doesn't look ready to return. With an appearance at the basho Tomokaze should be safe this time. Akinomaki 28,346 Posted November 11, 2019 Goeido is diagnosed as needing 8 weeks to cure his injured left ankle ligament. He's walking on crutches now and can't even touch the ground with the left foot. The oyakata: "If there were a chance of re-entry, I wouldn't have let him go kyujo in the first place." http://hochi.news/articles/20191111-OHT1T50135.html Ichiyamamoto on the other hand only needs a 3 day rest for his sprained left knee joint, but he also needs an MRI recheck. http://www.sponichi.co.jp/sports/news/2019/11/11/kiji/20191111s00005000232000c.html - he'll most likely come back (and maybe drop out again later) 2

WAKATAKE 1,818 Posted November 12, 2019 Tomokaze has withdrawn due to dislocation of the knee. The prognosis is not good either as the hospital he is at is limited on what they can do to treat him. They are hoping to get him back to Tokyo to get a better look at it. However at this point he cannot even walk on his own, so getting him on the Shinkansen or plane is logistically difficult. Oguruma is not ruling out surgery and says that it may take at least a year for Tomokaze to come back. https://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/201911120000342.html 1
