Former Maegashira Daikiho intai

Recommended Posts

Former Maegashira Daikiho announced his retirement today, following a seven-year career. After graduating from Nihon University he joined Miyagino-beya in 2012, making his debut as a Makushita 15 Tsukedashi. In just over a year he made his Makuuchi debut, only to finish with a terrible 3-12 record - it would be his only basho in the top division. Illness and injury took their toll as he suffered with Graves' disease (a thyroid condition), a knee injury and more recently yellow ligament ossification.

His danpatsu-shiki is set to take place at the Kokugikan on May 2nd 2020.

As his hair wasn't yet long enough to form an oichomage, Daikiho couldn't participate in Hakuho's dohyo-iri during his sole Makuuchi basho. However, he did take part in a special one at a shrine in Tokushima, serving as tsuyuharai.

He just could not catch a break in recent years. Hope he can find good health in post-sumo life.

Not a full intai-zumo I presume, just in one of the smaller halls?

I completely forgot he didn't have the danpatsu-shiki yet - today Daikiho had it in the party hall of the kokugikan (after the promotion party of Hayashiya Kirin yesterday topic/36306-sumo-family-news/?comment=500454) - about 230 attended

Glad he was able to have a nice event, finally. He had to have been the most overdue that I was aware of.
