Godaiko 26 Posted August 24, 2019 (edited) Hakuhō and Kakuryū were special guests at today’s Japan versus Germany game at the Saitama Super Arena. Kakuryū nailed a three on his second attempt. Hakuhō need a few more tries to sink his free throw. Edited August 24, 2019 by Godaiko 3

Godaiko 26 Posted August 24, 2019 (edited) It was an exciting game; Japan surged to a late lead for the victory led by Hachimura’s 31 points. The Yokozunae disappeared at halftime and returned for the second half; I wonder if they gave the fellows a pep talk? Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted August 24, 2019 The yokozunae were on a morning show showing off their skills. 2

Kakuryuu intends to attend. There is a chance he will be called upon to throw a basketball during the opening ceremonies. Kakuryuu used to play basketball. Today, before his bout at the jungyo, he threw a few shots. He practiced for 15 minutes and at some point, sunk 7 consecutive three-pointers. You may read that again. 7 consecutive three-pointers. "I'm happy I got it right in the end," he said. "But if I get to do that, I'll have to wear a kimono, right? It's going to be difficult.. Terukuni 105 Posted August 25, 2019 I love this thread. Seeing Yokozuna try other sports is very, very interesting.
Gurowake 3,033 Posted August 25, 2019 (edited) Both of the current Yokozuna played basketball in their youth and neither did any wrestling before coming to Japan if Wikipedia is correct. Maybe what's been holding Kakuryu back was that he was practicing basketball too much. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kakuryū_Rikisaburō https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hakuhō_Shō Edited August 25, 2019 by Gurowake
