Benihana 1,354 Posted July 28, 2019 (edited) Aki 2018 was the last time of 3 Yokozuna fighting for the whole 15 days. We are down to 2 Yokozuna since then and it doesn't seem we will see both going the full lenght very often. If one of the 3 Ozeki finally has his breakthrough moment with back-to-back yusho, that very basho could be 01/20...but we're talking about the kings of kadoban here, so don't get too excited. If you think we'll have to wait at least until 2022, please specify the basho in the comments. Guessing the correct rikishi will earn you a forumboshi (bragging rights). Rocks 1,457 Posted July 29, 2019 While I can see a new Yokozuna prior to 11/21 I think it will be a very long time before we see 3 compete on Day 15.

My guess is that the available yokozuna will drop to zero about the end of 2020, and it will be a long time before we have a pool of three of them available on the banzuke
just_some_guy 117 Posted July 30, 2019 While our two Yokozunae are still performing well when healthy, they're for sure in the twilight of their careers. I don't see anyone in makuuchi right now that I see as a candidate, at least not soon. Add in the requirement that they all make it to day 15 and it could be a decade or more before it happens.
Terukuni 59 Posted August 24, 2019 Yeah, I think time will need to come. I mean, it may take forever. Only time will tell. For example, the last basho in the Chiyonofuji Era where there were 3 Yokozuna in competition was Nagoya 1991. The next time that happened was Nagoya 1998. I mean, it might take a long time, especially with a dominant Yokozuna coming in, which will happen.
Churaumi 413 Posted August 29, 2019 The way the current ozeki are performing coupled with a lack of anyone showing true dominance below them makes me think it’s going to be a while before we get three yokozuna together at once. Me trying to hazard a guess is pointless because it would just be a random date, but it’s not going to happen within the time frame of the question. For clarity’s sake, I think the lack of dominance comes from strong competition at the top of makuuchi, not a general lack of talent in the division. There are a lot of good wrestlers right now and many of them are young and will be around for a while.
Jabbamaru 145 Posted November 6, 2019 Neonagoya 2083; two Hakuho's clones and a robot. And all 7 ozekis will be transgender women.
Yamanashi 1,426 Posted November 7, 2019 1/2024; only because of the lack of a dominant Yokozuna in the near future. Constant injuries to top rikishi will leave breathing room for Y2 and Y3 to win consecutive yusho.
Oshirokita 90 Posted February 15, 2020 I am going with NEVER again. I don't expect there to be more than 2 Yokozuna on the banzuke for at least the rest of this decade (2020s).
Morty 1,235 Posted February 16, 2020 I think it's highly likely that one or both of Hak and Kak will have retired before the next Yok is crowned, and even if they haven't, the chance of both reaching day 15 at the same time seems a very long shot. I can only see Takakeisho with a realistic chance of Yok promotion this year. Let's say Kak retires this year and Hak some time early next year, that will leave Takakeisho as the sole Yok, and I can't see two more being crowned in 2021, so I think we are a couple of years off at least before there are three Yoks on the banzuke again. My prediction, it will happen in July 2022, and it will be Takakeisho, Asanoyama, and Shodai(!?!?) - and clearly, that's a huge guess
Joaoiyama 192 Posted February 17, 2020 (edited) I see Takakeisho, Asanoyama and Mitakeumi being Yokozuna at september/october 2022. Edited February 17, 2020 by Joaoiyama
Churaumi 413 Posted April 28, 2020 (edited) Assuming basho occur close to schedule, and assuming Asanoyama continues to perform, and assuming the current yokozuna stay on until the Olympics, we could briefly see three next year. It's kind of like winning three rounds of roulette in a row, but it could happen. Edited April 28, 2020 by Churaumi I got a new phone and have to teach a new autocorrect to speak sumo. Kyokufuji 40 Posted August 23, 2020 I’m also going mid-late 2022. Asanoyama for sure. Would love to see Takakeisho there too, but starting to have doubts about his durability.
WAKATAKE 1,819 Posted September 5, 2020 I can see a new yokozuna being promoted next year, but Hakuho and Kakuryu are clearly on their way out, I think it would be safe to say that both of them will be gone by the end of 2021. Hakuho is just hanging around for the olympics and probably wants at least a 45th yusho, and Kakuryu is just waiting for his Japanese citizenship so that he can acquire a kabu. Even if we do see a 3rd yokozuna promoted, it's probably going to be a while before we see 3 yokozuna compete on day 15.

Just out of curiousity, do you have any source to underline your assumption, that Kakuryu is planning to naturalize? I couldn't find any statement or whatsoever and has always been of the impression, that his future lies in Mongolia (especially with his family still living there).
