How short is it ok to stay for at live event?

Recommended Posts

So I'm going to Japan and Tokyo for first time in September, have been a fan of sumo for years. I only have a short time there though and am with other people. I really want to go to one of the tournament days, but would only have the final hour or hour and a half to stay at most. Ideally I'd stay longer but not an option. So would is still be a good idea to go for that short amount of time? I don't want to come off as a clueless tourist, but that's kind of what I will be. Very unlikely I'll get to visit Japan again anytime soon.

Any advice? Thanks,

Plenty of Japanese ticket holders turn up for the last or two, so you won’t look completely out of place.

Absolutely go for it.

It doesn't seem out of place or strange at all to me,  as spectators showing up at different points throughout events is a very common practice across sports (for major boxing cards the crowd is often dead until right before the last fight), and one that can be observed in sumo as well. Besides, for a once-in-a-lifetime sumo opportunity why let the possibility that you seem a bit out of place stop you? Is avoiding bit of awkwardness worth sacrificing a live ozumo experience that, from your description, may never be possible again?
