Ikioi loses but looks more sprightly than in recent basho so that’s good. Hopefully he can consolidate in Juryo for a bit while he works on regaining his full strength. mt fuji 976 Posted July 7, 2019 Besides the usual favorites, I loved the energy from Myogiryu, Chiyotairyu, and Kotoeko today. Myogiryu made quick work of Shimanoumi, Chiyotairyu's one trick still works, and Kotoeko is looking balanced and slippery as ever. dingo 1,160 Posted July 7, 2019 I absolutely love the way Enho and Endo won their bouts. Making it look so effortless, especially Endo. I'm glad to see Kaisei starting strong, looking forward to a strong basho by the gentle giant. Speaking of strong starts, Takayasu made a pretty good statement with his first win. Of course it's too early to tell how his basho will go. Asanoyama showjng that he wasn't just a fluke. I mean yes it was Goeido, but stiill, beating an Ozeki on the opening day is not a bad start. However, I think it's fair to say that Kakuryu's matches can be broadly divided into three categories-- 1)Textbook, technical domination. 2)Screws up badly, but manages to escape with a win by not panicking in the scramble. 3)Screws up badly and is embarrassingly defeated. Looks crappy doing it, too. I guess once in a while he'll lose a major mawashi war to one of the handful of guys who are on his level working the inside(The match vs. Hakuho in March being a good example), but those are pretty rare. It's one of my fondest wishes to see a few more #1's from him each tournament, and a couple fewer #2's and #3's. I don't see it happening, though. 5 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

I don't think he can lift Kaisei's leg, with that injury his ashitori chances are even lower. I believe this is the first real skilled big man test for Enho.
