Eikokurai 3,433 Posted July 19, 2019 The rikishi must have been reading Sheryl Sandberg or something, because there was an awful lot of leaning in yesterday.
Kintamayama 44,354 Posted July 19, 2019 (edited) Down in Jonokuchi it’s going to be a three way playoff. Marushou, Sakurai and Motobayashi. All from Kotooushuu's Naruto beya. All 7-0.. Sakurai and his Oyakata seem happy enough; Edited July 19, 2019 by Kintamayama

Edit: the Japanese article says it’s the first such instance in Jonokuchi. Edited July 19, 2019 by Eikokurai
Jakusotsu 5,815 Posted July 19, 2019 Yubinhaad must feel robbed. They have just denied us the 13th instance of kotehineri in Makuuchi by calling Nishikigi's win kotenage.
Rainoyama 1,157 Posted July 19, 2019 Endo's interview are so bad they didn't even show his kk interview on screen, the announcer just reported the few words Endo said and that's it...
Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted July 19, 2019 And Asanoyama has gone makekoshi.
Rainoyama 1,157 Posted July 19, 2019 Wait what ? Tamawashi won by kotenage and didn't break Takarafuji's arm ? Incredible...

robnplunder 974 Posted July 19, 2019 Oh, my, oh, my. It is looking good for Terutsuyoshi. Hak or Kak will have to face each other, one of them ending up with 2 losses. Terutsuyoshi needs one more win for jun-yusho, and two more to .... wow! Just wow!
Rainoyama 1,157 Posted July 19, 2019 Tomokaze, never makekoshi, highest rank, and first kinboshi to get double digits with two days to go. Incredible.
jalil_the_swan 25 Posted July 19, 2019 What was Kakuryu thinking there, going in low? Tomokaze never let him anywhere near his mawashi. Mitakeumi kachikoshi.

On second thought, I'm disappointed that no black-belt-nitpicker pointed out that Onosho is listed East and Toyhibiki West, which should make locker room infection impossible. Or is that separation absent in Nagoya?
robnplunder 974 Posted July 19, 2019 My surprise of the basho and there are many: 1) Terutsuyoshi's run albeit from the bottom of Makuuchi 2) Tomokaze's amazing KK streak and how it was done (still with two days to go) 3) Takagenji's sudden fall 4) All Ozeki going kyujo More to come later, I am sure. Eikokurai 3,433 Posted July 19, 2019 Well well. The friendly wind blew away the Mongolian. I can’t say Tomokaze has excited me all that much on his rise, but he’s getting wins, which ultimately is all that matters. Definitely one to watch.

Koorifuu 886 Posted July 19, 2019 Considering how every single Mongolian goes slappy happy against Takarafuji... Has he ever spoken ill of their motherland? I'm not a fan of how Hakuho overcompensates his waning in-bout intimidation factor with thuggish bullying.
YoungSumo 93 Posted July 19, 2019 Tomokaze is something else by the looks of it. Really looking forward to see him against all the top guys next basho.
Dwale 419 Posted July 19, 2019 Best day of the basho thus far, with heated matches and weird happenstance aplenty. I know not what this is all building up to, but I get the feeling there are more surprises in store.
ryafuji 807 Posted July 19, 2019 Tomokaze defeated a yokozuna having never previously faced a sanyaku opponent. That can't have happened too often.
