How many times, I wonder, has there been a three-way playoff between rikishi from the same stable in any of the divisions?

Edit: the Japanese article says it’s the first such instance in Jonokuchi.

Indeed. In the beginning of this decade, there were two certainties before a basho even started.

- Hakuho for the yusho.

- At least 5 of Toyohibiki's matches would follow the same pattern:

1. Toyohibiki mightly blasts his opponent away, only the final thrust is left
2. You blink
3. Toyohibiki's belly is on the dohyo and his stunned opponent is still on foot

Live comments on Alvaro Morata's time at Chelsea FC have always reminded me of him. "Surely he can't miss from there!.. ... He's missed from there."

Oh, my, oh, my.  It is looking good for Terutsuyoshi.   Hak or Kak will have to face each other, one of them ending up with 2 losses.  Terutsuyoshi needs one more win for jun-yusho, and two more to .... wow!   Just wow!

On second thought, I'm disappointed that no black-belt-nitpicker pointed out that Onosho is listed East and Toyhibiki West, which should make locker room infection impossible. Or is that separation absent in Nagoya?

My surprise of the basho and there are many:

1) Terutsuyoshi's run albeit from the bottom of Makuuchi

2) Tomokaze's amazing KK streak and how it was done (still with two days to go)

3) Takagenji's sudden fall

4) All Ozeki going kyujo

More to come later, I am sure.

Well well. The friendly wind blew away the Mongolian. I can’t say Tomokaze has excited me all that much on his rise, but he’s getting wins, which ultimately is all that matters. Definitely one to watch.

One win wouldn't guarantee jun-yusho.

Best day of the basho thus far, with heated matches and weird happenstance aplenty. I know not what this is all building up to, but I get the feeling there are more surprises in store.

Tomokaze defeated a yokozuna having never previously faced a sanyaku opponent. That can't have happened too often.
