Taikoubana 144 Posted July 8, 2019 A shame. It would've been nice for him to retire of his own accord and not due to his legs giving out like that in front of a crowd. His expression was heartbreaking. A bad end to a great career, but hopefully the injury can be treated, and he can live a comfortable post-retirement life. Sad to see him go, but man, what a legend. Rainoyama 1,157 Posted July 8, 2019 Aminishiki :( my heart broke. Japanese commentators just reported that he is going to the hospital to check just how bad the injury is. Regardless of how bad it is I think it should be a sign for him to retire, he is already a legend, no need to endanger his health even more. It's just sad to see him go like this. That doesn’t look comfortable at all. Such a shame for things to go that way, but his body has taken a lot over the years. Hopefully he’ll recover and rejoin sumo as an elder in quick time. Ryuden not intimidated in the least by Takayasu and indeed took the fight to him. Impressive. Pat on the back for Asanoyama. Or maybe a "You tried!" sticker. Eikokurai 3,437 Posted July 8, 2019 Just caught up now. What an awesome day. On a normal day the amiuchi win by Sadanoumi would get plenty of attention. Today it was just one of several entertaining bouts. Enho taking Kaisei for a spin was awesome, Kotoshogiku and Meisei had plenty of energy, Ryuden and Takayasu had not one but two epic contests, Kakuryu showed great ring sense to spin out of trouble, and Asanoyama can hold his head up high for going toe to toe with the GOAT for more than 45 seconds. Benihana 1,918 Posted July 8, 2019 (edited) Ishiura, Terutsuyoshi, Enho, Kotoeko made it a good day for the Davids. Favourite bout of the basho so far was Ryuden vs. Takayasu. And they could have called for another redo. Ryuden deserved the win so much for his effort, but you have to give credit to Takayasu for recovering from that unfortunate position, too.
