Asanoyama victory tour didn't last too long, he was already back in Tokyo, sumida ward where Takasado beya is located today (June 3rd) and resumed training ahead of Nagoya which starts in just over a month now. He didn't do sumo but started with shiko and basic stuff.

It's the first time he trains since he won the yusho earlier last month, he's been very busy answering questions from the press and went back to his home region Toyama prefecture (cf. pictures  above). "When I went back to Toyama the people there were incredible. Seeing this, receiving flowers, being told 'congratulations' by so many people... that's what made me come down to earth and made me realize I won the yusho" commented a happy Asanoyama.

The next day after he answered questions from the local press (June 1rst) he went to visit the grave of the former manager of Toyama's Shogyo high school sumo club who passed away two years ago. In front of the grave Asanoyama joined his hands and said " Thanks to you I was able to win a yusho. I'll do my best and train diligently ahead of next basho. Please continue to watch over me when I'm on the dohyo"

Part 2 of the celebration are soon though as he'll be back in Toyama to take part to the heya's training camp in Imizu (June 11th - 13th) and a parade will be hold in Toyama city on June 16th.

Asanoyama concluded witht the most stereotypical answer you can hear from a rikishi  "For Nagoya I want to forget about the yusho and start from 0. I want to concentrate on one bout at a time and do my own sumo"

Yusho winner Asanoyama is very busy indeed. After he trained at his heya ( fundamentals and butsukari-geiko ) today, he went to take pictures for his yusho winner portrait, he then ate with people in charge at Kindai university (the university he went to) and finally attended a meeting of a regional association from his home prefecture of Toyama held in a hotel in Tokyo.

Asanoyama arrived late because of his packed schedule but about 900 people were waiting for him impatiently and welcomed him with loud applause and cheers. Asanoyama received a certificate from the chairman of the association Mr. Kuwayama and was praised by Toyama prefecture's governor Mr. Ishii "Let's all support Asanoyama" he said and the 900 people of the audience all clapped hands again ( the Yokozuna committee was not there so I guess it was ok ) "The best in all Japan" and other shouts were heard.

"Thanks to your support I was able to win the Natsu basho. I won't be satisfied with this one yusho though and I'll be aiming for Kachi-koshi in Nagoya" declared Asanoyama.

He then received flowers from special guest, enka singer Oka Midori and went up on stage to take pictures with his supporters who were  all waiting in line.

Despite the busy schedule, Asanoyama is determined to keep the momentum going and shared his plans to go for deigeiko. His heya's lodging house to prepare for Nagoya is located in Kanie town and quite far away from the other heya lodging which explains why he never went for degeiko to prepare for Nagoya in the three years of his pro career. Not this year though. "I want to borrow the chest of the top guys. It's not good if I just wait so I'll go " he commented.

Following the home parade on the 16th, Asanoyama will have another on the 18th at Kindai, his university. About 1km, from Kintetsu Nagase station to the Kindai west gate, again in a convertible (in the rainy season). After the parade he will get a 45kg kindai tuna, raised from the there spawn egg at the aquatic produce laboratory.

Asanoyama is the 3rd yusho winner from Kindai, following his shisho Asashio and Asahifuji (not graduated and still not mentioned in the database). http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20190607-00000150-spnannex-spo

Yusho winner Asanoyama gathered about 5000 fans in total between today's keiko and a talk show.

First as reported earlier, he took part to the training session held in Takasago beya's lodging camp in Izumi, Toyama prefecture (Asanoyama's home prefecture).
Despite being held in the morning and on a week day, the training session attracted about 3000 fans. At 4 a.m in the morning about 30 hard core fans were already waiting.

According to the report the crowd went bananas and a big "OOOOH" was heard just at the sight of Asanoyama sitting close to the dohyo to stretch... He had a total of ten bouts against young guys and won them all. "I was happy to do sumo in front of such a cheering crowd" commented Asanoyama.

In the evening he was invited to a talk show and about 2000 fans were present this time. Asanoyama talked about his interractions with president Trump amongst other things "I said thank you four times. His hands were bigs, about the same size as rikishi's hands" he explained

Takakeisho, Tamawashi and Tochinoshin had Sanyaku experience before their yusho.  Does anyone think there are extra concerns about the readiness of a mid-Maegashira for the next basho, what with all the hoopla surrounding Asanoyama?

Yeah, I expect him to struggle after all the partying and resulting lack of training, but if he figured out that not drinking during the basho helped him last time, maybe he hasn't partied too hard. I think a 6-9 or 7-8 would be a good result for a guy in his position, and an 8-7 would be outstanding. I like his style of sumo and I hope he doesn't crash and burn.

The Asanoyama Toyama koenkai had 990 members at the end of the last fiscal year (end of March), and had increased by just 5 new members over that full year. After last basho, there's a surge of applications for new member, and crossing the 1000 line this year is guaranteed. The koenkai started December 2015 as a support group for Ishibashi with 25 local members. After the change of shikona to Asanoyama, OBs from his high school and the prefecture sumo association joined to form the koenkai in May 2017, with about 200 members, 5000 yen admission fee, 10 000 Yen member fee per year. Members from outside the prefecture are also on the rise. https://www.47news.jp/localnews/prefectures/toyama/3684427.html
