Rikishi younger than everyone above them on the banzuke

Simple concept.  By definition the top rikishi on the banzuke will appear first, as there is no one above them on the banzuke at all.

Those who show up on this list frequently that aren't already Ozeki or higher are likely to be worth keeping track of for the future.  Probably anything the lower half of Jonidan or below isn't worth considering though.  This is quick enough to put together that I can go back a few years if people find this interesting, since the last few years might still show some prospects worth considering that haven't hit their prime yet.

Ogitora just happens to be the youngest of the previous recruiting class, and his lingering in the triple digit Jd area probably means he won't go much of anywhere, unlike the barely older Kotokume who has already been in Sd.  Numano will have the honors for the next year unless someone younger than him that graduated middle school early this year decides to join up later.

I guess I don't know (or know if anyone knows) which of Takanofuji and Takagenji is older.  Given what the formulas and filter of the spreadsheet do, maybe a more precise title would be "Rikishi for whom no one on the higher banzuke was born after the day they were", since that's how it will treat those born on the same day, twins or not.

Natsu 2015 was the last one that Takakeisho/Sato was not on, which was when Takayoshitoshi (Takanofuji) was last ranked higher than him, and Takakeisho/Sato's 4 basho in Ozumo.  This is probably a good place to stop.

One guy I'd like to highlight that I've mentioned in the past who has received little fanfare is Inoue.  He's on almost all of these up to the point Hoshoryu passed him, and so probably won't be on any more for a while, but he's definitely someone I'd keep in mind.  He got his first Makushita KK last basho, and is now ranked right around the middle of the division (and started with a win). 

I'll also make a shout-out to my man Shonannnnnoumi who is on many of these and is at his highest rank of Ms5 now after a KK at his previous high rank of Ms8. Unfortunately he opened with a loss this tournament.  I don't know why Tachiai keeps following guys like Akua who probably won't ever reach Makuuchi instead of this guy.  He's also going to be outclassed by Hoshoryu for the forseeable future unless the latter hits the wall, but he's clearly in my mind a top prospect and has been for a while.

Another guy to watch that's off of Tachiai's radar for some reason despite a pedigree of being the oyakata's nephew (given the Oyakata maxed out at Komusubi, maybe nobody thinks much of it) and having a good amateur career in Hakuho Cup and Middle School is Ryuko, who has also passed Shonannoumi recently.  Hoshoryu may end up firmly ahead of him though so he might not show up on many more of these.

I first noticed Kitanowaka while compiling this.  I could have sworn that was a name of a Yokozuna, but it's just Kitanoumi and Kitanofuji.  No one whose shikona ends in -nowaka has ever been Yokozuna.

The reason I said that was because I was going to give a list of Yokozuna whose shikona did end in it, to demonstrate why I thought Kitanowaka was the name of a Yokozuna, but I absolutely failed in finding any.

They're going to be terrible at sumo if they grew up reading this forum's advice, though. But post-career when they join the NSK management, they'll be at the vanguard of expanding international sumo viewership and darn good at knocking together the banzuke.

I forget how young Takakeisho is sometimes.....still only 3 others in makuuchi younger (were only 2 last basho). Only 4 in juryo younger (one of them born a couple weeks later).

Or maybe it's an indicator of a lack of depth in the generation younger than him.....
