Is it time to close this thread?

Why? It's the thread that makes the most sense these days.

I've seen this type of posts in a golf forum.   A person new to the forum posts for the 1st time asking about his chance of becoming a pro.   Many are trolls.   Once in a while, someone sounds genuine (but extremely naive).     This is the 1st time I've seen a post like this in sumo forum.

My advice to the OP - find something you can do for a decent living.   You can always watch sumo and daydream.     Your chance of becoming a pro sumo wrestler is near zero as my chance of becoming the president of United States.

For those who are giving him actual advice as if the dream is even remotely possible, you know you are not doing him any good (and shame on you).

On the one hand, this whole thread is obvious trolling. On the other hand, we had some kind of precedence on this forum with a gaijin becoming sekitori.

Judging by recent events, I'd say less.

If you are referring to Osuna, he was already in amateur sumo and at an age where he could do the move to pro.

We've had quite a few actually, most of them by the same guy making his yearly rounds under different handles.

I’ve literally just joined the forum. I’ve always wanted to do sumo, and a friend told me about when he first moved to Japan, he was able to get a visa that allowed him to stay because he was learning a fighting style there, and I was hoping sumo would’ve been one of those. And personally it’s not even about going pro anymore, more I’d want to be able to hold my own. I made the original post in order to get some answers, abd it just became this. And if people thought it was a waste of time, why even comment? And also I am setting everything up so I can start practicing this year. I hope to prove some the people on here wrong. And I want a chance to earn the respect of a former Yokozuna. Even if I can’t be pro, I can still train to be as strong as them.

Yes, a cultural activities visa is one type of visa that is granted to those wishing to reside in Japan beyond the limits of a tourist stay. You can check the website of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, or search for one of many of the companies that assist people attempting to get certain visas for a fee.

That’s what it’s called, thanx

1) most are too short; NFL offensive lineman are usually ~6'4" (193 cm).

2) offensive linemen cannot hold the opponent (I know, I know, they get away with it too often), so there is NO mawashi-grabbing allowed.

3) offensive lines (2 tackles, 2 guards, 1 center) must act as a unit, especially in pass defense; rikishi don't seem very good at that.

It makes more sense the other way around: NFL linemen would be thrilled to find out that they could hold legally.  The prototype for this body type would be, say, Baruto (with more speed).

I've taken NFL linemen into sumo stables and rikishi to football games.

Did a piece on that topic here:

Thanks, I've always wondered about that. Lineman even do butsugari but the one lending the chest is always just a simple sled.

Interesting. Personally I liked sumo more than football. I tend to lean more towards combat sports.

So, 9 months into the year, how's trainning going and when can we see the first bouts either in Professional or Amateur Sumo?

Practicing mostly, no money, or means of transportation to meet up with the only group that practice sumo in the whole state of Florida, or to go to the tournaments that are out of state. It’s actually kinda depressing. My goal is to spend the year training, and go to the New Orleans open in March.

And posting on the forum or watching Kinta's videos don't count as training...

I’ve been actually practicing, mostly the basics, and thing I can do alone, cause the only group that actually gets together and train is pretty much close to 150 miles away. Which is depressing when you don’t have a vehicle, and it would take 2 days to to go there and back. but I’m planning on going to the New Orleans open when that rolls around.

Ok. Report back in March.

It all depends on how things play out. I still need to get a mawashi, but believe me, no matter what, I will not give up
