Akinomaki 34,218 Posted November 27, 2018 (edited) It deserves a thread of its own - the last weeks had many news of the event and repairs of the Otoi-hall (which looks like a mini-kokugikan) - I'll post a digest of that later, and today the local TV streamed the whole day to YT, and the 9h42m, 17 961MB video is available now At 6h the first pro appears - Tamanoryu - he lost Ikioi interview at 6h42m the pro-ama tournament starts at 7h2m, 8h6m Ikioi appears on the dohyo, first with baby dohyo-iri, then sumo for kids, 9h5m the pro-ama kore yori sanyaku with komusubi: Naya (vs. Sumiki) and sekiwake: Hoshoryu (both won) - the final ozeki bout was only with amateurs On 19/10/2018 at 16:27, Akinomaki said: On 27/11/2013 at 17:38, Akinomaki said: At the 160year old traditional Otoi-Ōzumō on the 26th, 27th in Nomura-cho, Seiyo city, Ehime pref., sekitori etc. took part: local Kataonami-oyakata; Shohozan and Goeido at a baby dohyo-iri. This is the long-time unique tournament event with ama-pro bouts. The dohyo for Otoi-ozumo is prepared at another location, the Nomura public hall - to be ready on the 20th. The event is 1 day only this year, on Nov 27th, free entry. Invited is Ikioi. the repairs in the Otoi hall will take some more time from the past http://www.jprime.jp/articles/-/13541 o o And for the pro-ama bouts, Naya and Hoshoryu plan to be there - and they might fight again their opponent at last year's kokutai final and sf, local Sumiki. http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/article?a=20181016-00013541-jprime-ent&p=3 On 04/08/2018 at 15:47, Akinomaki said: Kataonami-oyakata on the 2nd was on a visit to his hometown Nomura in now Seiyo-city, Ehime, where 5 people had died due to floods from the torrential rain. He met with the mayor, went to a shelter to cheer up the locals and to the Otoi hall. Nomura is famous for the Otoi-ozumo event in November, where the pros meet amateurs - (ex-)Tamakasuga always was a regular guest. The hall with the dohyo had been nearly filled up to the ceiling with water. Now it's a mess and mushrooms grow out of the straw bales of the dohyo. Otoi-ozumo had started in 1852 after 4 villages had burned down completely, to pray for protection from fire - this time a flood disaster. It may be difficult to get the hall ready again till November, but even if the location has to be changed, they want to somehow have the event this year as well - and Kataonami wants to help any way he can. http://mainichi.jp/articles/20180803/k00/00m/050/106000c oo Edited November 24, 2020 by Akinomaki

Eikokurai 3,410 Posted December 5, 2018 “the proper pro-ama bouts ...” He’s been Harumafuji for ages, and besides, no amount of lobbying or holding bouts in support of his cause is going to bring him back. He’s gone. Time to let go.

Akinomaki 34,218 Posted November 24, 2020 The 169th Otoi-ozumo took place yesterday, reduced to 1 day, only 2 hours, with only local adults taking part. No rikishi from ozumo, thus no pro-ama bouts and no baby dohyo-iri. No spectators either. The severely flood-damaged Otoi hall had been repaired, but this year a different catastrophe endangered the traditional tournament. Nonetheless it was held, to continue the tradition. o o The local TV had again a 12h live stream - the video is 12 hours of just an announcement screen of when the stream should start. local TV news clips: http://www3.nhk.or.jp/matsuyama-news/20201123/8000008168.html http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20201123-00002417-itv-l38 -> youtube-dl -q https://gw-yvpub.yahoo.co.jp/v1/hls/8a1ac5278798f11d23e1e5d5dccd03bb/video.m3u8 http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20201123-00000005-ebc-l38 2018: -> youtube-dl -q https://gw-yvpub.yahoo.co.jp/v1/hls/051f3a77d8b3d2943580ce4b90fe24b0/video.m3u8 http://headlines.yahoo.co.jp/hl?a=20201123-00000197-rnb-l38 -> youtube-dl -q https://gw-yvpub.yahoo.co.jp/v1/hls/798dc54aa1b4e6aeca085641f4f07bf3/video.m3u8
