Yes, that was a tremendous push after the tachi-ai that sent Takayasu way back, but not out, and to get it Takakeisho overextended himself and got his hands arms tied up with Takayasu. Tied up inside with Takayasu is not a good place to be. Takakeisho tried harder than he needed to and got out of position. If he went for less of a push and keeps his feet then went for the slap as he has been he would probably have that yusho right now.

Was it two basho ago? He lost a few by losing balance. In this basho, his balance was excellent. Hopefully, it was just an unlucky loss and he bounces back today. Highway 46 Posted November 24, 2018 Gosh what a last two days. Takakeisho lost kind of the same way he won yesterday, had the initiative but slipped up. Down to the wire on the last day now, I think the chances for a playoff are very high.
Churaumi 728 Posted November 24, 2018 Seems like they are throwing both the Takas a bone when they drew up the matches. I wouldn’t normally say that about a Mitakeumi bout but he’s not himself this basho. Not a disastrous showing, but disappointing for sure.
robnplunder 974 Posted November 24, 2018 On the two Taka matches today, I think Takakeisho have a harder draw. Nishikigi is in better form than Mitakeumi who does not do well against Takayasu anyway. Yusho advantage to Takayasu.

Amamaniac 2,078 Posted November 24, 2018 Behind the scenes. For those who didn't have time to watch the full HNK broadcast, there were some "behind the scenes" points of interest: 1) During Nishikigi's KK interview, the interviewer asked if he knew who he would be facing the next day. He didn't know. (Talk about focusing on the present.). The interviewer asked if it was alright if he told Nishikigi. (That was very considerate.) The latter didn't seem fazed to learn that his final opponent would be Takakeisho. 2) Cameras cut away to try and catch Takayasu coming out of the shitakubeya. At first, they were too early to see Takayasu, but right on time to catch Takarafuji in his skivvies pulling up a pair of blue shorts. Embarrassing! 3) At the start of the now infamous "Taka v. Taka" Day 14 bout, there was a man standing in his boxed seat with a white banner (exactly like the kensho banners) showing the inscription: TAKAYASKU with "Aloha" coming out of the first A and "Hawaii" coming out of the second A. Do some people think Takayasu is Hawaiian, or does Takayasu simply have a huge Hawaiian fan base? 2
Amamaniac 2,078 Posted November 24, 2018 (edited) The Senshuraku torikumi impress me given that 3 Yokozunas and 1 Ozeki are kyujo. Not sure about the Ichinojo v. Kagayaki matchup in Koreyori Sanyaku, but really like the match up between Takakeisho and Nishikigi. I think the torikumi favour Takayasu, who will be fighting a spiritless Mitakeumi. Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted November 25, 2018 Pins and needles time...Takakeisho wins after a false start and a slip, and now finishes either tied for a playoff, or outright yusho.
CT3* 331 Posted November 25, 2018 Tonight I attended a small dinner gathering with legendary Japanese actor Akira Takarada (Gojira). Had the pleasure of briefly chatting with him about Sumo and showed him some pictures of me at the Kokugikan. He'd actually watched the Day 14 matches and we chatted briefly about legends past like Taiho and Chiyonofuji. When I asked him who was his current favorite, he promptly responded, "Takayasu!" This surprised me so I asked, "not Kisenosato?" and he didn't answer. Not sure if he misunderstood my question, but it seems he's rooting for Takayasu on senshuraku! robnplunder 974 Posted November 25, 2018 (edited) Shohozan vs Tochinoshin was a big mess. It should have never been. Late matta calls were terrible in this basho. Call early or don't call at all. Shame. Edited November 25, 2018 by robnplunder

Eikokurai 3,433 Posted November 25, 2018 (edited) Oh dear. The yusho escapes Takayasu’s grasp yet again. Still, at least Kisenosato can retire now. Takakeisho has now won a yusho in all divisions except sandanme. Nice. Edited November 25, 2018 by Eikokurai
