Otokonoyama 2,735 Posted November 23, 2018 And out goes Mitakeumi, right over that dohyo patch marking the very unlucky spot.

Morty 1,480 Posted November 23, 2018 Kagayaki was so keen to keep Endo off his belt that he ran right out of the dohyo to avoid it and only then realised the mistake he made.

Eikokurai 3,433 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) We’ve been seriously spoiled for Ozeki runs of late. Not all of them successful, of course. First there was Takayasu, then Tochinoshin and then Mitakeumi’s failed efforts. Now Takakeisho is on one, regardless of a yusho or not. 21 wins guaranteed across two basho at Komusubi, with more to play for. There’s no way he misses out if he manages 11-12 wins in January. If he does, we’ll have our third Ozeki in exactly two years. I can’t remember such a fruitful period. Edited November 23, 2018 by Eikokurai
Amamaniac 2,078 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) Fans were treated to the sumo equivalent of a dance off today. Two shiko showoffs showed off their shikos (try saying that three times fast) for a delighted crowd. Sadly, the yusho dark horse ended up losing the bout. But something tells me that most if not all of the three kensho prizes were meant for Meisei, who was fighting for his KK, but also representing Kyushu (i.e., as a native of Kagoshima). Dwale 419 Posted November 23, 2018 Fare thee well, Satoyama, and good luck to you. Is Aoiyama ok? That was a little worrying. Takakeisho very composed. He seems to be handling the pressure very well indeed. Little bit of luck for Tochinoshin, but I'm glad for it nonetheless. One more, big guy, come on. Gotta give Daieisho credit, he lost, but Takayasu had throw the kitchen sink at him to get him out of there.
word20 21 Posted November 23, 2018 Takkakeisho got a hit on the right side and Aioyama slipped when he did not have balance at this moment

Rocks 1,807 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) 2nd non-kimirate win for Tochinoshin in 3 matches. I wonder how common that is? Kind of ridiculous that Mitakeumi can't even give Chiyotairyu a good match with a day's rest. Edited November 23, 2018 by Rocks

I can’t remember a time when someone got two, let alone three or more, in one basho.
Kintamayama 44,350 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) "My right toe got turned over.. It went 'pop'.." explained Aoiyama why he inexplicably crumbled suddenly. it looked like he needed another push to win. ""Yeah, what a waste. It was going at my pace right? I was slapping and in charge.. Aaah, what a waste!!" he lamented later. "I'll do my best for the remaining two days, so that this feeling will flow over to the next basho," he summed. There it is.. robnplunder 974 Posted November 23, 2018 (edited) Sorry to see Satoyama's Intai (he went out as a winner going 4-3 in Makushita and winning his last 4 bouts). He was my favorite "little" guy before Ura came along. Will enjoy other "little" guys like Ura, Takakeisho, Enho, Terutsuyoshi, Ishiura. Admittedly, the Geek and the Kid didn't really want to, but they still somehow managed to drag them over the line. Kicking and screaming. Highway 46 Posted November 23, 2018 Very fun to see my top two, Aoiyama and Takakeisho, going at it. Aoiyama actually gave him a better challenge than most this basho, until that bad luck with the toe. Very much looking forward to Takakeisho-Takayasu and how that will pan out, definitely feels like a championship decided, even if not technically.

I didn’t literally mean that I couldn’t remember! I’m not that young, or indeed that old! I checked the data too, of course. What I meant was “It’s nice to be seeing so much emerging talent again after what feels like forever.” And six years is forever in sumo. Welcome to the world of pragmatics. ;) Edited November 23, 2018 by Eikokurai
