Mbovo's channel on Twitch

Recommended Posts

Hello Everyone,

As many of you know my stream on Twitch is one of the sources to watch live sumo.

Near the end of the Aki basho Asojima said goodbye from posting all the different live streaming options (huge thanks for his efforts), if anyone wants to take over please make a different thread for it.

I thought I'd open this one to keep my viewers and followers up to date about my channel. With only a few days to go until the start of Kyushu Basho there are some news I'd like to share.

The good news is there is going to be some kind of improvement on picture quality. My source changed from 576p to 720p 30fps and although I've always streamed at 720p 60fps it was thanks to an upscaling process done by my capturing card, from now on there will be no need to upscale the video.

The bad news on the other hand is that I'll only start my streams at Makunouchi Dohyo Iri in the next 3 Bashos, all because of the stupid clock setting in Europe. Hopefully this was the last one...

That's all for now, any feedback and suggestions are welcome. See you all on Sunday, I can hardly wait.

Wait, if this was indeed the last clock change then it will stay only at Makuuchi forever. What's "hopefully" about that?

You're right, I should have written the last autumn clock setting. ;-)

And I just want to say thanks to those who stick with my channel despite all the different options to watch Sumo. I think the reason is there's a great community in the chatroom with quite a few knowledgable members who are always happy to help the newcomers, answer their questions and share a lot of interesting info. (Applauding...)

A special thanks to those who support me, if you guys want your names to be mentioned here, let me know when making a donation or send me a pm here. (Signofapproval...)

Hey Everyone and Happy New Year!

The long wait is almost over, in a few days it's Sumo time again. I have some news about my channel. Some of them bad, some of them pretty good.

I'll start with the bad ones. From this upcoming Basho I'll only stream the last two hours of each day (if it's bad news at all, with the ever growing number of options around, it may not be), also there may be a bit of a step down in quality and stability. Nothing major though, it still is 720p with minor glitches in the stream... In my mind it's still a small price to pay for the good news, the long awaited English commentary and the fact that it'll be nearly live. I've been testing this service for weeks and all the programs start promptly on time (obviously my streaming software takes a few seconds to push the stream through to twitch). Of course, it's going to be a test and hopefully it will work well but in case it doesn't I'll make sure the usual Japanese stream is available as a backup.

I can hardly wait, see you all on Sunday at 4PM JST.

Thank you very much for all your effort. And I'd like to encourage anyone who finds mbovo's stream useful to donate via the link on his Twitch page. All this no doubt comes at a personal expense to him, and it's not really right that he should bear it by himself.

Thanks a bunch for your great work, mbovo. Much appreciated. Your stream on Twitch is my main source for watching sumo.

From this basho, as you have mentioned, the commentary is in English, which is great news for some fans. I prefer to watch sumo with Japanese commentary. Are there any other sources where I can watch the entire makuuchi broadcast with Japanese commentary?

Thanks again for your great work.

I'm really not sure, I have done my best to find an English source and lost track of Japanese ones. There is another topic for live streaming options, I'm sure you'll find something there.

No idea who has done it but someone has abematv on youtube with commentary in Japanese for makuuchi. Vision has been starting early each day so far. I can see this getting shut down in future.

Naivety if you think this forum is not followed by owners of the rights to broadcast. My point is Abema TV charge for the service and youtube is free.

Abema TV is free and has no subscriptions.

Another memorable Basho has just finished and I want to say thanks to the viewers, chatters, mods, and a huge thanks for the generous donations which helped me towards ordering a new, better and stronger Android box. I really hope it will mean significant improvement in the quality and stability of the stream.

I also hope that the number of followers will hit 1000 in March, see you all then ;)

Hello again, everyone!

With ony a few days left until Haru Basho kicks off, I have some pretty good news. The iptv service I used for my stream in January has got much better, the annoying choppy, glitchy video is in the past. I will stream in 1080p 60fps but of course you can change the settings in the bottom right hand corner.

I can't wait for Sunday morning (where I live), I hope to see you all ;)

Just a quick update, the number of followers has indeed increased to over a 1000 (proud moment) and in case some of you haven't noticed I keep the VOD accessible so you can watch any of the past days if you missed it. Twitch automatically deletes the videos after 14 days but I guess if you haven't watched what you missed for 14 days you're not that interested :)

My experience has been that each day's video is only available for 24 hours, and is replaced by the next day's video.  That has been the case, that is, until today.  Twice today, I tried to view today's video (i.e., for day 8) only to discover that it (along with about three or four very old pre-existing videos) were no longer present, let alone accessible.  Not sure if that is simply a momentary glitch, or something akin to what happened over at MISLET.  Just thought I'd mention it.  Hope that it is just a glitch, or that we can still stream the live broadcasts...  (P.S., thanks for your efforts)
